I have a transmitter, and the 4:1 receiver from a blade cx2 rc helicopter (its a cheap version on 2.4) and want to know if anybody can suggest how to use it in a boat. At the recent Birchwood show, there was a guy with a boat towing a water skier, he was using the same, but I think his 4:1 rx was a different sort to mine, I dont have a seperate rx, its all biuilt into 1 unit, rx, gyro etc. If anyone can help I would be very greatful, so I can get the boat on 2.4 instead of 40mhz

What does the radio consist of in the helicopter? Ie. does it have servos or is it all motor control like the Pico Z?

No Martin, not picco z, the 4:1 is the receiver, it has a built in gyro, and this type of heli has twin main rotors, instead of a tail rotor, making it very easy to fly. THe 4:1 mixes the power to each motor, to achieve turns. Its a very clever thing, and is 2.4

The only problem I can foresee then is need for as rudder servo, how do you connect that in??

I have an RC Heli with a 4-in-1 receiver, although it's a 6 channel receiver. The 4 bit as I understand it is receiver, gyro, main motor speed controller and tail rotor speed controller. The problem that you may have is in the mixing of the outputs. On my Heli I believe that this is done at the transmitter. Having had to do some disassembly (cough, crash, cough), I know that when one control is moved (could be either yaw, pitch or throttle) the result is that three servos move. There will lie the problem. I am aware that on my Heli (it's a Walkera) that it is possible to substitute external speed controllers for the internal ones - to run brushless etc - and that some of the servo output connectors correspond to those internal functions. If you have that capability with yours then I would guess it may work. I have always assumed that if my Heli experiment failed that I would be able to use the radio I got with it in a boat.
You may just have to plug servo's in and try it.

Hi Alister, I have come across that before, with 2 of my heli's. My esky king 2 has pcm, which means the tx mixes the 3 servos, my esky honebee is ppm modulation, no mixing of servo's. The tx and 4:1 I have are not the mixing variety, I think as you say its plug it and see!, Wish I had spoken to the guy at Birchwood show who was running the same tx, I meant to go back to hjim and forgot, seems a pity to have a 2.4 system sitting there doing nothing :(

I know that its been a while since your last post but you havn't said if you have managed to use the Blade 4iin1 unit. If you open up the box you will find two boards plugged together. One of them is the Rx board and it can be unplugged and used on its own. It is 6 channel although two of the plugs are on the reverse of the board (throttle and rudder) although the blade transmitter is only 5 channel. You might need to change some of the DIP switches under the flap at the front. No 1 is on for heli and off for aero ,keep no 2 off as it is also for heli (CCPM mixing). No 3 is elevator to rudder mixing, no 4 is elevator to aileron mixing and the rest are reverse switches. Hope this is of some help.
