Having decided to scratch build a 1/48th scale model of the Oman's Navy Al Mua'zzur I though I would make it more interesting by having the front gun rise as it turned.
I am therefore in need of ideas of how to turn the front gun and make it rise at the same time, or if easier, have the turn and rise separate (but I was hoping to use only one channel for this)
I thought of using a elliptic base with a pin up through the barrel (inside the turret of course) so that when the turret turns, the pin is pushed up and makes the barrel rise.
Am I over engineering something simple???
Any help as usual is greatly appreciated.

Jim Casey at JJC Electronics has just introduced an improved range of train and shoot modules. Each has 2 servo outputs, that operate in opposing modes. You use one servo output to train the gun, and the other to elevate it.
Once the gun has fired, the servos return the gun to its original elevation and rest position.
Easy....

Hi MV1,
If you make an shallow inverted "v" shaped piece of metal smaller diameter than the inside diameter of the turret.
When the turret traverses the pin with a little extra weight will follow the profile and raise the barrell, but neds a hollow turret.

Shipmate60,
You beat me to it that is exactly the way I made my barrels move up and down works a treat..

I must be sadder than even I thought.
On here too much

Thanks guys, will look into adopting one of the ideas for the ship.

another idea, if the turret has a base, is to fit a micro servo in the turret compartment, with the arm pulling on a rod linked to the gun, its wire will go through the bottom of the turret. another servo mounted direct to the turret base, or by linkage will work to traverse the gun.
mount these on a stick, using ch1 and ch2 of the transmitter,

Ch 1 usually used for rudder and uses 2 channels just to operate the gun, so will need 5 functions for basic control and gun.
1 each for shafts, 1 rudder, plus gun!!
