Title: 2 or 3 Motors in a MTB?
Post by: warspite on August 25, 2006, 08:50:19 pm
Just a quickie,

I just wondered which would be better the twin arrangement of the single, yes i know the picture has the props the same although for speed i believe they should go inboard

does the prop need to be as close to the underside as possible, with this thing it will be a test just for me to get it going faster than a snail on prozac.

Oh well, will have to see if the weight of the twin set up is less than the single, which ever is picked, the weight of the battery will submerge her significantly at the bow and therfore i will need to put some light weight bouyancy tanks in the clear areas. just hope there is some room, MIGHT post a picture, if i get chance. :-[

My preference is for 2 shafts.
Looks better and acts more stable.

id say which ever is easiest for you,and yes the prop should clear the hull by about half an inch or so to give better perormance  any nearer and you wont be able to experiment with props.in deep v racing boats the closer the prop is to the hull the faster it will go.the same applies here ,if you go with one prop you sometimes get torque roll it depends how powerfull the motor is.certainly two props give more realistic performance but i dont see why one wont work well for you.if you go with two you will want them counter rotating also.what size is she?and what motor or motors are you thinking of.im building a  higgins pt boat 30" long with a 540 motor for power im expecting speeds of 15mph from her from what a mate says his does using the same motor.so she should look pretty scale when shes on the move.

Warspite,

Go with the twin system always performs better than a single......
