Title: Cruiser or warship?
Post by: logoman on October 15, 2008, 12:56:44 pm
Hello, I'm new here.
I'm planning the restoration of this little (37") live steam ship.
It may be modelled on no exact class of ship, it may be a specific ship, I don't know.
I thought it might be a C Class Light Cruiser, about 1915, but I'd like to find out what the Mahem people think.

Yes, it looks as if it might be loosely based on a C class as you say. End of WW1.

With the shape of the bridge , funnels, hull shape and the guns try a destroyer of the G to I class pre WW2. Afraid it doers not remind me a C or D class WW1 cruiser at all, wrong funnels and bridge. Have fun with it anyway, it was some ones pride and joy on a local pond once, when imagination played a greater part than rivet counting of nowadays.

thanks Rmasmaster, very helpful.
Do you have any idea what the two brass things on the deck either side of the bridge are?

Looking at your model and some old books I have, I think it's just that in the days before proper scale fittings were available, people used whatever they could find at their local hardware shop.

I think you're right, the other fittings are odds and ends too.
Thanks for the help fellas, I'll keep you updated on the resotration.
In which forum should it go, Steam?
