Title: Is it possible to give this boat a make over?
Post by: Johnn on December 11, 2008, 08:56:12 pm
Like a spray paint - cut out windows etc?
any good ideas on what this boat could look like?

In a word yes.
But if you cut out the windows you will see right inside her so might be worth putting some internal cabin detail.

That's a Club 500 fast electric racer. I wouldn't cut the windows out, the superstructure would probably be quite floppy if you did that. As for painting, up to you but a bit of a polish goes a long way. Seek out others and race her, jolly good fun and in the spray the finish isn't all that noticeable.

Yes you can always modify things.

But as Dougal suggests it may not be a good idea.
The club 500 is a great fun boat, with wicked performance, and you can get it to almost do stunts and tricks. This will have the decks and even the cab awash for a few moments.
So maybe best to leave it as it is and then you abuse the little beast thoroughly.

I think you ought to wait for the eBay auction to finish first ! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160303780235&indexURL=2#ebayphotohosting (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160303780235&indexURL=2#ebayphotohosting)

In the meantime, take a look at the kit on the Model Slipway web site: http://www.modelslipway.com/club500.htm (http://www.modelslipway.com/club500.htm)

It does look nice though. I tried a fellow club members one on our lake last year and it was good fun to sail. I'd enjoy a racing series one day but we are sticking with Slingshots for now.

Get into Club 500 racing, and all the other competitors will try and give it a make over  :-))

Yes the club 500 is just an out-'n-out one (& fun) class race boat.
Get it up an running and find someone else with one and off you go!   :-))

Get another boat if you want something else with more detail or more scale.

Hi all,
Looking at this another way, does any one out there know of a better value for money boat in the cabin cruiser style. Personally I don't.
It's not a bad performer, comes with all the parts to build a complete boat, ex glue, radio etc. and batteries, so no going back to the model shop to be sold the wrong parts to finish! (We have had horror stories of newbies being sold random stuff)
I have recommended it to visitors to our pond as a good starter boat, and windows and fittings could be added if required.

And PS we must all have seen these ready to run SPEED boats that are anything but fast.

Probably not better value, but close. the Graupner Lotse, if accidentally fitted with a speed 400 and powered by a light battery at the rated voltage can give startling performance.  Tabs at the stern to break the water flow there help performance as well - these might be a help with the Club 500, but could void the "one design" concept.
