Ok, good news is I have found the magazine , the " WATERBORNE DIESEL SHUNTER" Free 16 page construction pull-out, here lies the bad news ..It has been pulled out!! and I do not have it.. Sorry
Why not buy it from the link Martin posted? Its £4
Anyone got a springy hull lying sround? I want to build Nitrospring :-))
I built a motofloat a few years ago, I entered it in a steering regatta, the club in question had a docking procedure at the end of the course on this occasion, I think I had a clear round until this but the rules said that it was the lenght of the model plus a fixed length (can't remember what that was). This is were I slipped up, as the model was nearly square the diagonal was greater than the dock length allowed so I could not get in, I did inform the scorer that when the motofloat came alongside it came in straight and was lifted out of the water by crane and left on the dockside, but this was not allowed. Still I had a lot of fun with the model be fore I sold it. So much fun in fact that I have started to build another which is going to have a schottel drive unit.

hi u-33
motorflote pusher tug plan & building details on ebay item number (370152144665) :-))
regards jason
how about one of these
Another thing I didn't mention in my earlier reply was that a friend of mine went down to the southcoast, I beleive Chichester area and found one of the original Motofloats, he had gone to count the rivets so that he could have a dig at me for not building a scale model. He came home having had a wasted trip, very upset he told me that the whole thing is welded, not a rivet in site {-) {-) {-) Alan
Well well well...it looks as though we could have a challenge here to Motorflote superiority? <*< <*< <*<
Give me a chance to build it and then we'll see what can be arranged, there must be one of them there Springing things in my neck of the woods? Motorflote will take on all comers and will show success...we will stomp on you Springin things... <*< <*< anytime baby!!
Springers...huh! Exterminate....exterminate....exterminate!!!!!
RichMotorflote rules OK!!
Careful, them two TBW springers have a PHD rating...
Rumor has it that the drives are sonic driven... O0
PS Until you modify the hull, too enable some reverse do not run into any marker buoys, you can't get away from them.
If you build the " Model Boats Dec 1985. Motorflote - Pusher Tug" You need to heavily modify the hull to get any reverse. As drawn the boat will not go in reverse, I had to trim the corners of the bottom section to get some reverse. It is a very interesting and fun model to run, ether by itself ( it wanders all over with no directional stability) or tied to a tow (it is suddenly like running a large model). When I build another one I will use the hull design from the Springer.
Regards,
Gerald.

Unless you ask (nicely) a Springer to rescue you... ;D
I have checked with my friend and he confirms that the Motofloat was at Poole, unfortunately he did not have a camera with him.
Alan
Cough...splutter...I'd never live it down! Good grief man, what on earth are you saying...rescued by aswingspringer??? Cough...splutter...

Well theres always my Perkasa to rescue you, thats what we use down our club when we can't be bothered to get the boat out. Only problem it's a bit broken at the moment %) and if I tryed to push that poxy little thing with it it would just roll like a small child on crack on top a hill ....... ;)
Nobody built a Motorflote? <:( C'mon guys...don't be shy, there must be a few of you out there in the depths of Mayhemland that built one, surely?Hi Rich.
Rich
im intrested in the canadian tug behind the box :-)) is it one of the sea imps?
"Here's one I built earlier!" :P
How about if I bought one of these: http://www.mobilemarinemodels.com/steerable-554-p.asp (http://www.mobilemarinemodels.com/steerable-554-p.asp) and added a small rudder from styrene sheet, would that do the trick? I can get a prop from somewhere...are they the ones with the flattened off tips to the blades?
Rich
(just noticed I have a small bit of filing to finish off...)
Hi BarryM it is very common to have rounded tip props with Nozzles for instance the Avenger,Hibernia, Ionia, Sun XXV and Sun XXVI all had nozzles fitted with their original rounded tip type propellors retained. Geo
Very true Plague. But
Does it really matter on a model
that is going to be used in water
and not sat on a pedestal for rivet counters?
Ned
It will be on show here and there, but I very much doubt that the average rivet counter will know what a Motorflote is, let alone know what shape the nozzle is.
Rich
Rich that is a VERY ARROGANT thing to say not at all in the spirit of mayhemMaybe, but very accurately put. A lot of the viewers probably never trouble to look at the back end, never mind the underneath bits, even when counting the rivets.
Dave
If they were for lifting, they would have metal going downwards along the line of pull, so i would say they are for joining another tug or sponson to the sides.
Yes, you may also find this interesting.
You mean like a vertical strengthening bar or a plate?
Rich
when i looked at these, first thought is that they are to lift the vessel out of the water for transporting to a new location - if this is a replica of an actual vessel - and its military so something they would do.
Probably float a couple of feet above the mattress %%If there were four other people in the room though Rich could have a "High Five"... {-)
Ned
Don't think a 380/385 motor will have enough torque to pull a 35mm prop efficiently direct drive. It's been the normal drive on Revell Snowberrys for ever, and works well. Usually the motor is on about half its rated max voltage. Having said that, the original Springers (and this was originally going to be based on a springer hull)were normally powered by a 540.
I can't understand the appeal of them, just a motorised steel box noot much bigger than a coffin.
I assume you mean the TUG. {-)

Not much done today, the paint didn't arrive but the ladyfriend did,
Thought it was a hoopla hoop %%
Ned
Is George a Dentist or a Barber in his spare time. {-) :-))now I know why there is a big open hatch in the roof, its for george to shoot out of when he presses the ejector seat button.. ;D
One cool seat, for gentleman Georgeah the ubiquitous black chair is George going on mastermind.. {-)
:-))
At thirty quid or so, one of these should be in all our armouries for pond side rescues of stricken boats!!!!
Keep up the interesting posts Rich :-)) I am highly tempted by one to become the Linkspan Models Rescue Tug.
You can always get the Lady Friend to make him a nice orange boilersuit :D :D
Ned
Hi Rich.

Any more pics or links to pics Frank??
Ned
I've never seen a Motorflote with a sleeper cab....
Somebody tell me why I decided to build this damn Motorflote? Every straight edge, every join, has to have a length of 4mm styrene angle glued across it...I've used over a dozen packets of the stuff so far. It's driving me mad...just over half way through now.
I'll end up a gibbering wreck, sat in the corner and muttering to myself soon...
Right boys n' girls..spot of advice, please...super glue, heat shrink, wire crimp.??
How would you guys attach the tyres to the sides on the 'Flote? I hate the damn great knots I seem to get...any other ways of doing it?
Pah! George is 'ard, he don't get seasick...he goes round and round in circles all the time. ;D
Newhaven to Dieppe :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
Nice name Rich {-) {-)
Ned
Hi,
With all apologies for copying your photo without asking.

Ooh, you lot are rotten to my Motorflote...Hmmm..!! not sure about the name "The Pusherman"George might get pulled over by the wasserpolizei thinking he`s a drug smuggler. {-) {-)
I'm thinking of honouring the old Steppenwolf track from the film 'Easy Rider'...you all know the one...The Pusherman.
First coat of primer on earlier this morning...blimey, that stuff stinks to high heaven. The whole flat smells like an auto body repair shop...no chance of a 'romantic interlude' this evening... <:(
Hi,
Could someone please shoot Netleyned?
Regards
Eat your heart out Rich :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
Why..???? two totally different boats Ned and no banter about bricks.. O0
frank
I wish my hair was that long....
Steven appears rather quiet this morning [and motionless] U-33 :o ...has he eaten all of Georges sangas? >>:-( .....................
If Steven has ate all Georges butties does that mean we are gonna have a "PoopDeck".. {-) {-) or is that what the barrel is for.
frank
Umm...err...it says 'Made in China' on the bottom. :embarrassed:
Well, it's on the way to the US of A , I guess...
As soon as the new car arrives, I can get it in the water for initial tests.
Photos tomorrow morning...
An Amphicar methinks %% %% %% %%

Hi Rich
RE: Oh, one more thing...George says to say 'Thank You' for making him a celebrity, autographs will be available later.
Maybe George and Steven should ave their own "Face book" page to record their adventures on.. O0
Frank
One step ahead, Danny...seagull guano applied. ;D
Now the MotorFlote is about finished, it's been decided that it really needs something to push around the lake.Thats not a barge - it georges bath tub
One of Chris Peppitt (https://www.facebook.com/chris.peppitt.7)'s (Omega Model Boats) superbly moulded Thames lighter hulls will fit the bill perfectly.
1mm styrene deck, false load area loaded up with timber (a stack of coffee stirrers) and bottles of water as ballast...the shipyard is busy again.
If it's anything like it's predecessor, it'll be slow, wandering off on it's own course, and bouncing about like a duck on acid %) My first one refused to obey commands from the tx, and would happily trundle off across the lake going where it wanted to go. They really are comical things on their own the water, but when pushing something, they really come into their own.
Hi,

WoW how did we end up at the movies ?????????????????
i thought we were serious modellers LOL
all in good fun , but lets get back to rc and glue , i love sniffing the stuff LOL
as nothing better than the avo in the shed !!

So where are these infamous photos? <*<
Nice to see MF in action Rich.
Ref the leak, are you sure George
hadn't had a leak if he had been near those barrels
on the quayside %)
Hope Lori is in better health now.
Ned
What's she like through a slalom?! %)
Like the Novgorod or a WW1 Monitor.
[/quote
I'm seriously contemplating a Novgorod...
Any pusher looks good rescuing a broken down model from the far reaches of the lake :-))this is very true, and a good reason to have one, even if it's a humble springer.
Ned
Bullies...you're all bullies. George managed to move the side of the temporary pool we had up, without even trying...a pusher's physical ability is not in question, and george is a very nicely detailed model of a real boat.
Anyway, I'm telling the chairman of you lot..
i take it (nearly) all back! i've just been looking at the ugly boats thread, motorflote actually looks quite good!
What do you need plans for, a box of a well know tea bag company as a template, just box round it, its about the same size and shape %) (hello Mr shifter - oo stop monkeying around)
Good luck with sale Richard - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scratch-built-rc-model-pusher-tug-/252835444330?hash=item3ade2ab66a:g:MeEAAOSw4CFY28Eq (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scratch-built-rc-model-pusher-tug-/252835444330?hash=item3ade2ab66a:g:MeEAAOSw4CFY28Eq) (free plug! ) :-))
Thank you, Martin...much appreciated.
