Hi,

I'm aiming to steam my flash boiler powered "boat" for the first time in public at Easter and possibly at other events, but have noticed that some organisers require pressure vessel certificates and insurance for steam powered vessels.

Since the MPBA Steam Rules (rule 7) states that Monotube Boilers (also called "Flash Steam") do NOT require a test certificate, would some organisers, not familiar with flash steam, still require a certificate and insurance?

I am a member of a local model boat club, which is MPBA affiliated, but I know they rely on the local steam locomotive club for steam advice.

Has anyone had problems in this area?

Should have put the answer for everone to see, which is
You do not need a boiler cirtificate for a flash steam coil, a cirtificate is only required for "pressure vessals" ie boilers, blowlamps and gas tanks. Gas tanks have a different test pressure than that required for boilers and blowlamps (all gas tanks no mater what size have to be tested to 400 psi) and all should be tested every 2 years.
