OK, my Spektrum DX5e 2.4GHZ arrived this morning so this evening I removed the 27mhz RX from my Southampton (WYEFORCE) and popped in the Spektrum AR500 Rx plugged everything in went through the 'bind' procedure and the Tx and Rx are communicating ok but I can only get the rudder to work not a peep out of the throttle. Any ideas please?

Are you using separete power pack for the rx,as my spektrum wont work if using main battery

The first thing I'd do, whatever gear I was using, would be to try the throttle on another channel and see if that works. If it does then it may be a question of how the ESC sets its neutral position. Let us know what happens and we'll try to help further if you still have a problem.

No I am not using a seperate power pack for the Rx, do you mean plug another battery into the batt port on the Rx?

Thanks Guy, will give it a go.

What voltage are you using for main power, the rx will not work over 5v or very near, but Guy is nearer the point as your rx is obviously working.
stupid question is the esc lead plugged in rx right way, black lead to edge,i had this problem you have, but cant remember what i did to resolve
WE will sort it.dont worry

The Tug works off 7.2v, like I mentioned the Rx is lit and the rudder works fine.
I have just fitted the Rx to my Thunder Tiger boat unplugged the leads from the 27mhz Rx and plugged them in the Spektrum and everything works fine in the Thunder Tiger so its not the Spektrum at fault.

I am just looking at the AR500 user guide and it states that the Receiver input voltage range is 3.5 to 9.6 volts.

Hmm....proboat esc?

Bob as i said earlier, could be voltage prob, but you have proved not right,
this is a tricky one.for me

Sounds to me that the problem could be with the speed controller.
Try disconnecting the centre lead from the ESC lead to the Rx and running the Rx from a separate battery.
This is easily done with a small screwdriver or point at the connector.
If that works then the problem is with the ESC.
Bob.

Thanks Bob I will try that tomorrow.
I have just spent a hour trying everything with the 2.4ghz system in the tug, rudders work fine but no throttle, occasionally the props start randomly spinning full speed with no input from the TX. Put the tug back on 27mhz and it works fine. Put the 2.4ghz system in my other boat and it works fine as it should, strange!

I don't know whether this will be of any use to you or not....
But...
I'm notionally 'chap in charge' at the model sailing at Gresford Sailing Club today (Saturday) at 2pm till 430pm ish - if you're nearby you're welcome to come on over and I can cast an eye over it for you.
It's a mile North of Wrexham just off the A483.

It might be that your ESC is not suitable for the 2.4GHz radio. Most 27MHz and 40MHz receivers have a higher output pulse signal than modern 2.4GHz receivers. It might be that you will need to purchase a ESC which is compatible with the lower pulse on 2.4 sets.... or you could make a simple pulse booster which plugs between the 2.4 Rx and the ESC.

I think that is the case, the ESC doesn't seem compatible with the 2.4ghz Rx. I think I will change the electrics in the tug.

Changed the ESC in the tug today and now everything works as it should with the Spektrum DX5e.
