The RNLI have now decided on the revised hull design of their new Fast Afloat Boat and have released a video of the model testing here:

I was almost certain that they were going to go for the Safehaven Marine Interceptor design, after all the testing they did on it.
If it's in house design.................more money wasted, as they never get it right? %% {:-{ <:(

It's a Fast Carriage Boat, not an Afloat Boat. In my book, money spent on getting the design right is not money wasted. The previous hull design was from a 3rd party designer, not an In-House RNLI design. Read into that what you will. I think it looks very nice i have to say. I would love to know more about all the scale models that were used for testing.

Sorry, my mistake! A typo.

Charlie, if you look onto the web site Lifeboats24-7 there has been a long running thread and debate about this boat, and I think you will find that the boat IS in house designed.
The Dutch lifeboat service has offered help as they use a similar boat all around their coast, but with a different hull.
You will also find that extensive trials, using their own in house designed hull gave the boat far too much roll, pitch and yaw in foul weather....weather which this boat is supposed to be at home in, and that is why they went looking at others including the Interceptor and the French Le Beak.
However they have also had problems with the water jets which have given problems when beach launched on sandy or shingly beaches...........almost all places where a carraige boat is to be beach launched.
so sorry but I think that this is dead money.
The problem is with the RNLI thsat they don't like others offering design help.....and that is not from me.....but from two very respected ex coxswains that I have known for years, plus a mechanic.

After Watching the video, I don't think I'd like to be a survivor in this boat. Especially if it was a rush to shore job. O0

The original FCB2 design was based on a CAMARC designed hull. Checkout their website here:

"was based"
you've answered your own question, charlie
the RNLI don't design well.
they have always had designers such as Watson do them, but when it comes to in house, they perfectly well stuff up a design by changing it.
the last boat before the FAB's which include the Waveney was the Clyde.
this was orriginally a flat transome designed boat, but the RNLIgot hold of it, changed it to what it became, and the designer of the Clyde never designed for them again.
they can't leave well enough aloan, sadly, and always want change, whether it is to the detriment of the original concept or not.
as you say, the EFFSEEBEE IS based on another boat, but what they ended up with was a million miles away from that original design, so i have been told.
i mean, you only have to look at the new Tamar class, and the design problems and the mechanics of getting it all to work properly to see what i mean.
the launching and recovery process of the Y boat from the opening transom stern is a health and safety nightmare in it's own right.
don't get me wrong though. I AM NOT KNOCKING THE BRAVERY AND STANDING of any lifeboat crewman or woman.
I have probably more respect for them than any person on this site, having had my life saved by them 51 years ago this june.
I just find that in any organisation there are those at the top who will not listen to the shop floor operative.
And in this case it's the crew men ,who have to operate the boats, and as such gave the big thumbs down to the FCB,in some cases stating that they thought the RNLI development was in some cases, dangerous in certain sea conditions,
Sadly often crew members opinions are not taken into accountand the management think they know better because they have those magic letters after their names.

If I were a survivor I'd be happy to be on this boat - even if the ride is bumpy it drier than the sea ! Still if you are going to be picky I'll be happy to ask someone to send a liner to pick you up when were are back on dry ground. :}

Good thing I'm an ex-squadie, don't like to get my feet wet :}.
Looks good cutting through the water, but with a back injury/broken bones, I'll have a Trent or Severn. Thanks {-) {-) {-)
