Title: RC ModelWorkShop
Post by: jenno on April 16, 2009, 10:08:24 pm
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me if RC Modelworkshop are still in business they don't answer the phone or reply to emails
When ever a good sound unit comes on the market the business just seems to disappear into the night without warning.

hi jenno, Anthony never answers emails, He occasionally looks in here, pakirk I think is his name, maybe a pm will get him. I asked several times for info regarding a new sound system based on a merlin engine, was due out last sept, in the end I gave up, worried that if you cant get him when you want to buy, what happens if you get a fault? pity really, he seems a nice guy

Anthony never answers emails,

Which makes me wonder why he bothers having and publishing an e-mail address. I hate it when people do this - OK so it's unreasonable to expect a cottage industry to respond as fast as a multinational who have lots of staff but if you don't want to answer at all then say so.  /rant

Not only does he not reply to emails he does not return calls. I am now on my 3rd sound unit and this one does not work correctly. I have sent repeated emails without success. I am the guy who rewrote his instruction leaflet so that anyone could understand it. I bought one of the first units and my feedback was used to correct problems and hopefully produce a better unit. Should Anthony read this could you please send me a working sound unit and I will send this one back to you.
I have also noticed that RC Model Workshop is no longer included in the Reade Plastics 2009 catalogue.

If any Member has an issue which they want to resolve with a trader they should contact the business direct. The Mayhem PM system may be a possible way of making contact as well as the telephone, Email, fax or letter.

It will not help if pages of the open Forum are used to make comments which may or may not be well founded. Nor will speculation help.

Moderators will allow this topic to run at present but if it become counter productive, acrimonious or given to unfounded comment it will be locked.

This started as a simple question about if a company was still trading as they don't reply to emails or phone calls ,as i can see all the remarks that have been left are similar. as for trying to get in contact with them direct this what we have been trying to do, The mayham PM system only works if/when you know a company is a member of this forum.
You also say it will not help if pages of the open forum are used to make comments which may or not be well founded how are we supposed to help new people to the hobby when you can not advise them not to waste their money on a company who are not helpful to say the least, all the remarks that have been left are only peoples opinions and truthful thoughts about their experiences with this company a lot of people have lost a lot of money with them and i for one would what to know this before i deal with people like this.
If you feel this topic is to close to the truth then yes lock it who cares...........you'll probably moderate most of the above anyway.

Jenno, Dealing with traders of the small cottage industry is always going to be more of a challenge than dealing with the big manufacturers because so many things beyond thier control can affect thier ability to do business.  Personal and family issues as well as personal health can all contribute to completely stopping production and there are actually many health issues that affect a traders ability to communicate effectively.  That said he obviously should respond to enquiries but all to often they take on more than they can handle and soon get snowed under and unable to communicate.

Whilst Mayhem is happy to allow members to share thier own experiences to assist other members in making a choice we must be carefull that third hand experiences and personal opinions do not cloud and over inflate the issue.

Roger was simply warning that this thread was in danger of going that way and was quite correct in making it known that it was being watched.  Unfortunately there will always be a minority of members who feel that they have the right to use Mayhem to air their personal grievances in public and try to coerce support for a particular situation.  Mayhem has to protect itself from such situations and all potential legal implications.

You may be dissapointed that your earlier post has not been moderated but as long as the thread remains factual and objective then there will be no requirement to intervene.  I would also suggest that if you do not recieve a reply to your PM that you simply report that fact and put it down to experience.  All other members will then be aware of the fact and can be guided accordingly.

I believe he was on the trader's list for the North East Model Boat Show at South Shields, but I don't think he was there.

Thought we had free speech in this country, or is that only in France?

FREE SPEECH

Free speech and expressions of personal opinions on this forum.

This Forum provides an opportunity to express opinions on a whole range of topics, not just model boating.
However,Martin (as the Site Owner and the one person who must ultimately carry the can for everything
that goes on in the Forum)and the Moderators he has appointed, are determined to ensure that all opinions
are expressed reasonably.

The Forum does not offer the right of uninhibited, free speech.

Thought we had free speech in this country, or is that only in France?

That is why we have lots of laws to control freedom of speech.

Libel and slander laws
Gagging orders for National interest
Public order offences like, action likely to cause of breach of the peace, affray, verbal assault, hate speech laws.
Blasphemy laws
Official Secrets Act
Contempt of court laws.

To name but a few.

I cannot think of any country that has unlimited freedom of speech.

I know Tony quite well (P.A.Kirk). He is an electronics whizz, but as such he seems to live on a different planet to the rest of us. It's hard to say what his problems are, but being a lone operator cannot be helping him. Probably a classic case of the inventor / manufacturer losing sight of what the end result is supposed to be. I think he needs help in the form of a "marketing" guy; otherwise he will sink, which would be a shame as his electronics and experise are first class. I hope he reads this comment and re-thinks his operation. Good luck Anthony. Bryan Young.

Jenno

As someone who is a free speech absolutist (print journalism major in college) I generally despise anyone or anything that attempts to limit someone else's speech in any way and I generally support your 'right' to gnaw the ankles out from under possibly bad vendors but...

The only free speech is the speech of he who owns the press.

As always, the owner of the press (or, in this case, the forum) always decides what appears in his venue.  Letters to the editor were always edited for content.

That'll be me then!

I just want to be careful that we don't run the man down or his business if there is a legitimate but unknown reason
for the issues at hand. Until then I'm going to lock this topic.

Please use 'Report to moderator' link below  if you have any definite news or information concerning RC ModelWorkShop.
