History is littered with examples of nations re-telling the story as it best fits there self image.
I live in a part of France where the great George Clemenceau was born. he pulled the French Nation together after the ignominious debacle that was the First World War for the French. To see the celebrations of his achievements and how histroy is presented around here you would think both the 1st and 2nd World Wars were won, single handedly, by the French!

France is full of tree lined avenues, allegedly, these were secretly planted by Germans years before the two great wars.......so they could march in the shade!!!
I told this at a very international gathering once.... there wasn't a dry eye in the house!
