Title: Mayhem Where next year?
Post by: Martin (Admin) on May 29, 2009, 06:47:59 pm

If I've recovered enough in 12 months time, where should we put on the mayhem show?

I'm very happy with the Wicksteed Park, location and facilities, but I thought I'd through the question out there .......

Also, a couple of proposed events for the weekend,

1. Club 500 races.

2. Fixed hull racing, eg. Century / High Wind Twin Engine Speed Boat ( usually on Ebay, see below)
( Class needs to be defined and agreed. )

3. Straight running class. Something like:
    NO RADIO.
   Any power.
   Any design.
Must fit inside a 1500 x 500 x 500mm... which is roughly the size of my Ravell Gato sub or my Bismarck!)

4. Footy yacht racing.

5. Steering competition.

6. Towing competition.

... what say you?

                    Martin
   :-)

Simple one really one hull do what you like to it as long as it's not petrol or nitro, you can pick up those boats for a song as they usually are faulty after a few trips out,I have converted mine to a single brushless motor as seen at Wickstead this year.Went well turned flat hours of fun on a single 9.6 stick pack.

Anyone want to buy one got 2 for sale ;) :-))

Wicksteed is fairly central geographically, has a great lake and all the facilities, including camping, you could want. I doubt if you could do better.

By all means have some more specific events but if you do, allocate defined time slots and appoint somebody reliable to be responsible for each of them so you don't have to directly get involved. Spread the pain!

Why are we even having this conversation? Wicksteed has the lot, however somewhere to run the OMRA boats would be nice. But it is no big deal if we can't. However that verses on site camping, low water level for you folk who like a bit of wadding.  I have to say If it is going to be hot next year a Shower block for the campers would be good.
Wicksteed 80%
Somewhere Else 20%

We would love to hold it at Stevenage BUT there is no camping , the water is deep, on site facility's are 1 cafe which charge 85p for a cup of coffee. A second mortgage if you want to eat there.
+ I would have to get it passed the other members here at Stevenage MBC.

Bill, there was a shower block, you would have found it if you would have left the "Mayhem Formation Drinking Team" !!!!!
what am I saying, we never formed anything----------------

Wicksteed gets my vote, Colin has said it all- ( sorry to the chaps in the south, but the Portmsmouth display team would be a great coup to any Mayhem event)

Rain or shine I will stay untill the Monday :}

And sadly the Blackheath pond is about the size of last years Rain puddle at Wicksteed  :(( :(( :((

               Breakaway Mayhem North
Main Mayhem at Wicksteed

Its a thought    :o

And remember Mayhem merchandise (hats, sweatshirts and polos) now available
And you to can look good !!!!! :-))

PS How's the Lifebaot kit coming along   :-)

PPS have ordered a Club 500 kit   :-))

PPPS Mayhem next year, put me down for the Club 500 bit   :-))

The lifeboats going well, needed a fair amount of filler but no worries there. Off sometime soon to go buy some more paint, then I'll airbrush it :-))

I know the motor you should put in the club 500 by the way, a Dynamite C-4 9200kv brushless, with a pair of polyquest Li-Po's. Edit : Zippy Li-Po's

If it's still for sale, I can get you one for a tenner. I would also use the original hull as a mould to produce a carbon fiber one.

This is the first year I've been able to go to Wicksteed but I thought it was ideal.   Lake big enough but shallow enough not to need rescue boat.  I didn't camp this time but would next year.   Therefore happy to see Mayhem there again next year.

BTW two thoughts on Mayhem clothing, I've obviously missed how to get a polo shirt and second if any other items may become available can I put in a plea for floppy sun hats.  I wouldn't be seen alive (or dead) in a baseball cap but if 2010 is anything like 2009 would like to wear a sun hat!

Cheers

Cornwall is darn good for me. But Like I said before WHY MOVE??? Wicksteed park 95% of all we need. The other 5% is cause there is a lack of a big lake where i can run my Makara and Hydro.  Roll on Llanberis 09.

If its doing fine where it is I would leave it there but it can be a long journey for some members. The Blue Water Shopping centre in Kent is a place I would recommend, as its got almost everything there. Great club Chantry MBC. large water, a big shopping centre 100 yards away, free parking, just off the M25 at the Darford tunnel Kent then down the M2 for a few miles.

Just to say i have nothing to do with this club just see its as a good place for the venue.  :-))

Thats fair comment seaspray but you need somewhere where we can leave Gazeebos up from the fri to the sunday and also have a caravn and camping facility, not a lot of places have this Wickstead I am afraid gets my vote.
the only other place that can accomodate this is LLanberis which I am running in August

Surely theres plenty of places in the country that will accommodate Gazebos  and R.V.s and have water for our boats. Just a case of  identifying them.

Anyway just an idea

Ok Seaspray what have you got in mined in Kent???? Water, Camping, punters who will want to come and see what is going on.  It's a hard one , but if you do have somwhere in mind that ticks all the boxes oh and must be able to run IC's as well.

Yep there is the ic boats one myself some years ago and may build something in the future. So it has to be outside  show for the fumes and noise also large water for the speed they can reach.

According to the BBC (who are ALWAYS completely impartial)... O0 O0

The centre of Great Britain is in Lancashire;

"According to the Ordnance Survey's definition, the centre of Great Britain (factoring in its 401 associated islands) lies on Brennand Farm, about seven kilometres north-west of Dunsop Bridge.

On the exact point - grid reference SD 64188.3 56541.43 - there is no monument or sign. It is just an undistinguished clump of grass surrounded by peat bog."

To be fair to all for travel purposes, the nearest suitable water to this location should be chosen?

Of academic interest only, but...

The coordinates given by the BBC don't work on Google Earth, but the Wikipedia link provided by Martin gives coordinates that do.

The nearest water to the geographic centre of Great Britain looks to be Stocks Reservoir near Clitheroe in Lancashire.  Good fly fishing apparently?

Yes & the Bad thing about Coniston is, when it blows & rains a bit it realy goes for it. The other thing is Model boat Mayhem already run a weekendin Llanberis so I would find myself having to drive over 5 hours each way to get there. It only seems fair that one in the north and one meet in the south to all who travel to these events.

If you want a change from Wicksteed park next year then I fancy the Norwich club site, as long as there is camping VERY near by.  Stevenage would be better but there is NO on site camping near us so thats out.

Bill is right there, when its nice its fantastic, when its bad its flippin aweful!

It was a bit tongue in cheek when I mentioned Coniston - its not really suitable for an event like this, the waters are far too open.

Our club ran a 1m race event there a few years ago, and that was difficult enough! I wouldnt put scale models in there!

I can't imagine where you would camp near Eaton Park in Norwich.

Unless someone knows where to camp I think that it is a non starter despite being a perfect lake.

In reality Wicksteed seems popular & is fairly easy to get to for most of the population so why change it?

Wine cellar stocked and plenty of beer as well (in an emergency the local wine producer is two minutes away). Lyn has her apron on and I will light the BBQ. Temperature on the terrace 22 and 21 in the pool at 07hrs this a.m. Off for a dip when I have finished on here. Plenty of camping/caravaning space. You know you want to be here!
