Title: Newbie questions on remote steering
Post by: RoyWilson on June 13, 2009, 10:09:53 pm
Hi,

My father-in-law has decided at the age of 76 to try his hand at remote control. He has built several Billings models and is currently building the African Queen.

I have purchased a remote control kit from Cornwall models boats for him and after setting this up on the dining room table he now understands how it all works.

However he has two questions that hpefully someone would be kind enough to help with

1. How do you connect the two rods to the tiller. We understand that the actuator will push and pull two rods, but the tiller is a vertical shaft, so we are unsure if we need to solder something onto  the shaft for the rods or if there is a more elegant way to do it.

2. How do you make the prop shaft water tight? I assume some grease inside the prop tube will do the trick, but would appreciate any comments/guidance.

Sorry if this is really basic stuff, but this is all new territory for him.

Many thanks
