How do you go about working out size, depth of hull, ballast etc???
Title: Re: Andy's Battleship
Post by: Steamer on June 17, 2009, 12:17:59 pm
As Martin said...also, it that the USS Texas?......it's similar
Is it a "ride in" model ?....it would appear so.
Whats the power plant?
How was the hull made?

Inquiring minds would like to know!

Well I made it up as I went along, got help from the Pompey boys . Looked at lots of pics on the net,all the good bits went on ,its no specific ship, because I didn't want the hassle of "that's not scale " or I didn't have that on it !" >>:-( The size was easy, whatever fitted in the garage.. The hull made deep enough ,in case I got any fatter.. And the ballast is me and a leisure battery.

Dave
Yep Dave I did nick a lot from "USS Texas " including the colour, Its a sit in model ,more fun. The power comes from a 34 lb thrust electric outboard. The hull is 4mm ply as the superstructure.

Steamer asked "is it the USS Texas".

Judging by the flag it's probably the RWS* Taff Terror.

*Royal Welsh Ship! %)

Andy looks nice.  I was trying to track on exactly what ship it was and then as I read it was kind of a homogenization (lots of Texas though).  Mine is still in the rolled plans stage waiting for funding for the shipyard (materials) would love to see a couple of pics of the cockpit, and agree with those wanting to know more about your propulsion systems.  What operating features do you have?

Hi Foo well the motor is a cut down electric outboard, the type you use in fishing ,as a maneuvering motor.I will post the workings soon but busy at the mo. Battery is a 110a 12v. yep did pick a load from the Texas ,nice ship ,but didn't want to build it scale just wanted to see if i could build it in the first place... {:-{

Lots of interest in her Andy!... I suspect quite a bit of envy really!  ok2

Any chance a of more pictures of her please, interior, prop and rudders, controls etc.
( I particularly interested in the hull construction method. )

Also, what working features does she have?

Andyman,
Not sure if they are available in the UK but here in the U.S. they have roundtoits for sale in the big box stores.  I think if you hunt around you can even find some of the old squaretoits also.
