I'm new here and just would like to pick afew brains plz.
I have had few cheap electric boats, that whizz round the duck pond afew times before needing recharge, with my kids, recently my son (8yrs)designed a model boat from plastic fizzy bottles(1 big 2l with 2x small bottles each side) i made a sail and boom and added a keel. To my suprise when we took to local river, it worked really well. Now that has given me (and my boys) an idea to try a rc yacht, as the batteries won't give up after 5mins.
Please can anyone suggest a cheap starter yacht(not kit form, need to try one 1st with kids to know if going to get bigger and better!)...Basically i know nothing about rc, but could be willing to learn!

I am led to believe the basic yacht will cost about £30 (radio extra)
and it is designed to get people interested in yachting

Getting a small yacht to work well is not particularly easy as a first project, especially an RC one which carries the expense of the radio gear. The Wee Nip is reputed to be a good boat, as are the many "Footy" designs, but for guaranteed performance a well reported kit is a much better proposition for a first try. All the difficult bits that could spoil things should have been sorted, and there will be plenty of experience available for you to build on.
Something like the Thunder Tiger Victoria is small enough to not be a problem storing and transporting, large enough to not be too picky about sailing conditions for a beginner, and, as model yacht kits go, very reasonably priced and a good looker when built.

I would recommend the Victoria as well.
It does not really need building. Assembling would be a better word.

The problem with the very cheap boats is that they are not hobby grade and usually disappoint.
One suggestion would be to find a local club that has sail boats, and talk nicely to people and tell them you would like to try as you are wanting to get into the hobby. Then ask very nicely if you and the nippers can have a quick go.
If you put your location into your profile, others can advise on local clubs.
BTW there are instruction for building bottle boats, do a search on here. There are several threads.

I found a book in the Library the other day , Strange I know :} called " Build your own Radio-controlled Yacht" this is a step by step modelling guide and also includes Full size Hull and sail plans.

Thanks for all the info, like the look of alot of them, would like to see some in real life to see sizes! Anyone know of rc boat club in Weymouth area?... Go see them and chat to the people there.

When you phone or visit the club, see what other classes of boats (apart from IOM) people sail.
I say this because one of your questions will be, 'how much?'.
Internationa One Meter (IOM) can be a very expensive and competitive class.
So remember to ask about novice classes as well, while you pick your jaw up off the floor :D
