Title: MDF sealer
Post by: ether823 on July 19, 2009, 06:59:25 pm
I`ve been on the lookout for some sanding sealer and went to my local B&Q and they dont stock it and have never heard of it.!!!!!! Went to my local Wilkinsons and all I could find was MDF sealer. My question is, will the MDF sealer work on balsa and ply? Pete

Axminster Tools sell sanding sealer, acrylic, cellulose or shellac.

Fast efficient service.

Don't think so, it's just a paint primer I believe

It may also be a primer but it will seal the surface wich I believe was the original query.

Hi ether823

What town or area are you in ?       Sanding sealer =   Shellac type  is not Waterproof !

Cellulose Type dries very fast but check with top coat for finish.
( SS is Dope plus thinners and a filler )

Acrylic always check with top coat
( may not be waterproof )

As Timo2 States Cellulose S/S is clear dope plus a filler. We used to use Talcum powder in Wing shrinking dope as a get by when the Model shops were shut.

Hi Pete I brought some sanding sealer recently from Inwoods Models in Huntingdon also from Geoff Stubbs in Oundle (Northants). Both are into model aircraft rather than boats so would suggest you try your nearest model shop. Dave

Hmm, I thought the original question was whether it could be used as sanding sealer on balsa and plywood

Sanding sealer isn't just for sealing the surface after all, it is a grain filler.

Far better to get some cellulose sanding sealer, it does what it says on the tin  O0
