Title: to plank or not
Post by: guitar man on August 15, 2009, 01:29:01 pm
hello there just wondering on your points of veiw
I have just completed my frame work for the hull it is basicily a hard chine hull a slightly weird stern shape in my opinion (perharps an error on my part) anyway now have to decide on whether to plank it or to skin it in ply ( using 1.5mm materials). Ply seems to be stronger unless there is the option of diagonal planking. I know at the end of the day the choice is mine but any comments would be welcome. If  i was to use ply would this then need any glass cloth/ resin on the outside before painting or would it be ok to just resin the inside?

many thanks you have already helped a lot so far up to this stage of the build   O0

Well be assured the hull shape seems to match this Sirmar TID hull

Diagonal planking would not go well over those hard chines.
If you are using a established plan you could make a more specific thread asking if anyone has built it.
