I was just wondering what other hobbies/interests members have. You know people who like motorsport, playing with old cars. Myself I like to take landscape photos. Here is one I took about a year ago at Christmas
-
When I'm not model boating, I tend to spend a lot of my time in the air. Gliding and parachuting are some of my hobbies, although there is not a lot of time spent in the air with the latter!!
The first photo is not of me, but of the first person in the group to jump. I was still shaking inside the aircraft!!!
Taken from about 5,000 ft up.
(There is something quite un-natural about jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft!)
The glider is one of the aircraft at my local gliding club.

Hi,
Model railways, running the club website (not the same effort as Mayhem, but mine own), crosswords (solving and compiling), sudoku etc, programming (been trying, but not very hard, for 15 years to get my head around C), digital photography and reading novels. I also like to walk in the hills but usually have to settle for a couple of miles road walking a day.

I'm an avid maritime photographer ( as Dave Leishman has found out !! ) with well over 10,000 photo's taken over the last 30 years. I've still got 2,000 recent photo's to edit and another 4,000 yet to be scanned. I also run a wargamming club in Fraserburgh. We play Warhammer , Warhammer 40k , Necromunda , Mordheim , Space Hulk and American War of Independance ( everything in 28mm scale except AWI which is 20mm scale ). Up till my bad accident thats left me with 2 squashed disks in my back I was a keen angler both fresh water fly fishing and sea fishing ( had my own 25ft Ferro-cement ex-commercial fishing boat ) and until this time last year I was always out walking my Lurcher but until I have an operation to remove a chunk of bone thats broken off my ankle I can barely walk 30ft !!!.
In my youth ( well 25 years ago lol ) I used to program computer games on the good old Spectrum , Commodore 64 and the early model PC's. My style of games were Text Adventure games which are nothing more than glorified database management lol. Still got my Spectrum 128 +2 and my Commmodore C64 to play the old games on as simulating them on a PC just isnt the same. I used to program in Machine Code ( Z80 on the Spectrum , 6502 on the C64 and 68000 on the first PC's ) but sometimes took the easy route of programming in BASIC and compiling it into machine code if I was in a lazy mood.

Nope. What I'm *really* wondering, is why you spell your name with a c.
Did your mum like T-Rex?

Great photos guys.... more, more!
Maybe we should have a fantastic photo section on this forum!

riggers24,
How about amateur radio (ham radio), computer graphics and photo manipulation? The first I've been a part of for almost 40 years, the second for only about 15 years. Use the second to 'change' pictures to 'suit' any situation, then the first to send those pictures to other people almost anywhere in the world. A sure way of getting in trouble with the people in the pictures, but fun.
Someone mentioned old cars. Been there done that too. Wish I'd finished the last one before I retired! Anyone want an old Ford pickup (almost as old as me)? Best way in the world of throwing away money. Also lots of fun, and I made a killing on the one before this one!
Also used to love playing pool. Wasn't half bad till my vision sort of got crossed. Now, there's just too many balls to mess with.
Most fun I have is watching people. No idea if that's a hobby or not. Also no idea of how to give an example that wouldn't get me barred from the forums! lol Amazing what you see sometimes. Never figured out why some of the 'fads' going around don't go straight into the ground, but, some of them are very nice (I'm going to take up 'body-painting' as soon as I master this @#$ airbrush! If my doctor will approve it.).
Flying was also one of my hobbies till the cost of fuel got so ridiculous. The real ones, not the little ones. And why anyone want's jump out of one I'll never understand! (Almost tried that too, but chickened out.)
Had lots of 'free' time while working so have sort of mixed all of the above with work, at times. Visitors to the station often were shocked/discouraged from comming back, and a few came back anyway (really odd ones!).
My most favorite hobby is complaining. My bosses finally understood that if I wasn't complaining I wasn't happy for some reason. Almost took the fun out of it...
Several other 'hobbies' but like I said, I don't wanna get thrown off the forum...

First of all: HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIGGERS!!!!!!
Oh dear, lot`s of interests and other activities- but not enough time! :P
My son and I do a bit archery, with selfmade Longbows. We enkoy ourselfes in the nature. Another interest is making slot-cars scale 1:24 for our Carrera which leads through the whole flat. And of course my sports, which become minor through the modeling season.... ::)

I blew part of my early retirement grant on a 21ft Jaguar 24 sailing yacht. (I used to have a Jaguar 25 but sold her a couple of years ago). Built in 1983 she is in need of a bit of tlc but we've got the outside sorted out and tomorrow she goes into the 'oggin so wish me luck. They drop you in with a crane and leave you suspended to check for leaks - from the inside! main engine is a 6hp Tohatsu 4 stroke in a cockpit well plus I've also got a 2.5hp Yamaha for the dinghy which can also be mounted on the transom as a belt and braces alternative if the bigger one has a fit of the vapours. Both motors are brand new and not run in. Tomorrow morning we have to negotiate our way out of a tidal pool and round to a drying pontoon in Thornham Marina in Chichester harbour before the tide drops and leaves us on the mud! This is why I've not been doing much modelling lately!
-
Hi,
I am part way through building a 10ft clinker sailing dinghy. Hope to get it on the water this year. Hope it doesnt sink!
I am also part way through building an orrerry from my own design. Well, its the second attempt, the first one didnt work! I had to build my own dividing head to cut the gears as they arent made for my lathe, (knew I should have got a myford! doh!)

I'm an avid maritime photographer ( as Dave Leishman has found out !! ) with well over 10,000 photo's taken over the last 30 years.
I can happily vouch for that, and my gallery's much the happier for it :D
My lifetime hobby is avoiding DIY to the best of my ability (unless I directly benefit from it ;)), despite the best efforts of the better half!
I dabble in programming C and C++ but have lapsed recently to pick up PHP scripting for the web.
I tend to like spending the odd hour here and there running around first person shooter games - primarily WWII like Medal of Honor, Call of Duty and the like, but also Battlefield 2 more recently.
-
I like diving and snorkeling when i am in cornwall and the scilly islands in the sommer. It is nice calming and the fish dont answer you back.
-
here is my other hobby, you now know where my user name comes from!!!!!!!! mark
-
Nice car :)
-
Not absolutely sure, but would bet it's a '67. Had one, wish I still did!
- 'Doc
PS - Wanna trade for an old pickup??
-
you are right it is a 67 and its for sale if your interested!!!!!!!!
-
Wow, love the Mustang!! A car I would have loved to own but never will. I own a 1950 Austin Sheerline DS1, bought as a derelict(intact) from a scrapyard 17 years ago. I have srtipped and rebuilt the old girl over this period but work slowed to a virtual standstil 6 years ago since I took on the submarine business. I have only just picked it up again and begun to rebuild the interior which was completely wrecked. Getting there slowlylbut steadily. For the amount of work involved, I should have built a Bentley instead as it would have been worth a great deal more when finished. We did it for the love of it rather than the money... but thats what hobbies are all about, isnt it?
-
...I own a 1950 Austin Sheerline DS1...
I'd never heard of one of these, so I had to go looking...

Dave.. It has a Stromberg downdraught carb which I lovingly refer to as 'the bucket' which feeds the iron head 6pot ohv oilwell under the bonnet. On a good day its supposed to return around 15mpg.. God knows what it will be like on a bad day but given the price of fuel, I reckon I'm going to need a trailer full of loot to keep it rotating. For all that, its as smooth as a 'Roller' and I want to get it on the road before someone high up decides to turn the British oil supply off!
best regards... Chris
-
Most of my friends think im just a sub nut, but three years ago my partner soon to be my wife, said lets buy a boat so we did, it was a Norman 20,we had lot of fun with that boat (never got it to dive though) anyway we put her up for sale and got a bigger one, a Fjord 27, more fun on the humber, (still wont dive) regards Pete

Well, as they say, better out than in - the water I mean! ;) My boat went back in yesterday. When we left, the boat was in the water but the water wasn't in the boat so let's hope it stays that way.

I had a neighbour, be died a couple of years ago. He wasn't much liked so many people avoided him, but he was very good at trapping me when I walked my dogs past his bungalow. He had an endless fund of old stories, most of which I found very interesting, especially about the cars he had owned, and one of these was an Austin Sheerline. He'd owned his own business years ago and must have been a wealthy man, he'd owned several RRs or 'Royces' as he always referred to them, but the Sheerline had been his all-time favourite. He often repeated the tale of how he'd once driven from his home in Bournemouth to Marble Arch for a bet, all in top gear, not a single gear change. It must have been in the mid 1950s, and instead of the M3 he'd have had to drive through towns like Basingstoke and the outskirts of London on the old single carriageway A3, with traffic lights, roundabouts etc. He reckoned that none of his RRs could have managed it, so the Austin must have had a torquey old motor. He also told me that he never managed to get the mpg into double figures.

About all you have to do is ask Martin what my other hobbies are, but to make a long story short: I love camping, doing artwork, collecting miniature kerosene lamps, carpentry, tinkering with electronics, writing and most recently, taking care of other people's dogs.
The doggy daycare is more of a fun thing, than a job. I love dogs, and when we lost our last one about 5 years ago, we swore we wouldn't have another one. But, then about 2 years ago, my wife says to me, "As much as you love dogs, why don't you start a doggy daycare?", I thought, why not? You have all the advantages of having one for awhile, but then they, like grandkids, go home.
I also like making miniature anything. My most recent project was a 1/16 scale lighthouse to go along with my 1/16 scale lifeboat. Martin can attest to this,as he has pics on his site of the build. I also made a part for a fellow modeler, since he couldn't get the part from the kit manufacturer, as it was discontinued.
I know I'm forgetting some of my hobbies, some that have been lying dormant, collecting dust in some obscure place in the basement or the attic.
Enough for now,
The Crazy Yank

you yanks got 30 hours in a day or what?
Where do you get the time?
-
Dave.. It has a Stromberg downdraught carb which I lovingly refer to as 'the bucket' which feeds the iron head 6pot ohv oilwell under the bonnet.
That makes about as much sense as the US National anthem (or British for that matter) being played throughout Iraq!
Needless to say I have 'engine blindness' - I only have to open my bonnet and the whole lump just blurs into a single confusing mass of metal, plastic and rubber. I love the AA ;D
-
Dave, I am just like you when it comes to looking under the bonnet of a modern vehicle and you know what, its the best way to be mate. Nowadays, I call the RAC cos there' bu--er all you can do about it if it stops working anymore, I don,t even recognise some of the bits they put in there. I am a sad case now because I know every single nut and bolt of this 50 year old car. Just for laughs, my brother and I sometimes have a little competition by dipping our hands into a box of scrap generated from the restoration and pull out a tiny component say, a pin, screw, spring or whatever and yell 'name that part'! So far, I've always got it right.. wot a sad sod!
-
Where do I start,Golf you know that game that spoils a good walk!,fishing whether it be fly fishing or carp, photography every subject except still life and flippin protrates, motorsport all aspects especially competing in the left hand seat, navigating to you mear mortals, and last but not least model boats
-
Hi all, been off-line with PC-itis forthe last few days, so I've missed this thread - and about five pages of "unread posts".
I've got lots of other hobbies - vidiography, die-cast cars, classical music, poetry, reading etc, but my real passion is Austin Seven cars - not the Mini, but the real ones from 1922-39.
The pictures below show a bit of 1:1 scale model building (the body for my 1929 Special) and the delivery earlier this week of my new toy, a 1933 RP Saloon.

I have two hobbies, apart from model boats.....
A dog...which takes me for walks and ....a wife who has to be obeyed. I guess the last is not a hobby, more a punishment!

Hello Rick, a fellow "traveller' so to to speak. If only I had bought an Austin seven. I think these cars are lovely and I'm sure I would have finished building one of these much sooner than a Sheerline. That remark in no way underestimates the amount of effort which goes into any restoration. Regardless of size (which does'nt matter) you have to be a jack of all trades to re-create old vehicles such as these. The pictures tell it all so all credit to you.
My only contact with the 'Seven' was an engine which was fitted to an old motor launch which I restored many years ago. It would start at the drop of a hat but did not take too kindly to a sustained load and would just die periodically. probably due to piston crown temperatures soaring. I am now slowly restoring a 16foot clinker motor boat which is powered by a Morris 8 (Vedette) sidevalve engine. I swapped an old Jaguar for this boat and SHE who must be obeyed was non chuffed about that!
The biggest problem I have is too many dreams and not enough time to fulfill them. Oh for a nine to five job!!
Good luck with your re-build.... Regards... Chris
-
I have to also confess to being a car nut when I'm not building or sailing model boats or on a nice bumpy river doing a spot of canoeing.
My beast is a 1974 Aston Martin V8, and it's old enought that I can recognise all the bits under the bonnet, and even know what most of them do? :o though I must admit that if I need to anything with the four twin choke webber carbs ( one barrel for each pot !) I will instantly surrender and send for an expert.? Biggest task I have had with it in six years of ownership has been changing? the limited slip diff last year when the clutch plates on one side collapsed? :-\? fortunately it only took me an afternoon to do the swap for a reconditioned unit - oh and ?850? :'( :'(
She has a high smile factor, and on a tour round Scotland last year after a two week sailing holiday from Oban round the Orkneys and back, she returned an average of 16 mpg (and one speeding ticket? :-\ :-\ )
Aston
-
That is probably one of the most beautiful cars ever designed.. a hand built icon with a business like snout, a vehicle with real presence and a smile factor of 100%. My son is a plumbing and heating engineer working for himself and I have ordered him to buy me an Aston when he makes his first million.. I am not a mercenary old "xxxxx" though.. I told him one with holes in it will do and I will spend the rest of my life rebuilding it. Even if they pull the plug on the oil supply before its finished, I will get it towed by a traction engine... just so I can sit in it and watch the scenery go by.
10 out of 10 for taste Mr Aston!!

Between Working 9 to 5, tinkering with models and doing my bit with our local Coastguard SAR team plus having a wife, there's not a lot of time left to do anthing else. ;D

According to my
other better half I have far too many hobbies! I love motorsport, especially at grass-roots level. I used to do a bit of off road racing, even trialled once or twice (abysmally!), now I just take pictures. Love r/c anything: cars, trucks, tanks etc. as well as boats. Having 2 sons heavily into football, it is muggins here who gets to training half an hour early and leaves half an hour late after putting up and then taking down the goals...and there's helping out at Cubs and Scouts...and trying to put together a web-site...and endless DIY (Which in our house stands for 'Done It Yet?', often said in quite a loud voice!).
Here's a couple of racing pictures from last year: a sunny day in Somerset and a not quite so sunny day on Salisbury Plain!

Well i've just sold my last bike , which unless the NHS can come up with a miracle op for my back will be my last. I've owned 4 bikes over the years started off with a Honda NSR125F which I only ran till I passed my test. Upgraded to a Yamaha XJ600 ( pre-Diversion version ) which I owned for 5 years before selling to a mate due to buying a house. Next bike was 7 years ago which was a custom hard-tail chopper based on a Z750 Kwack frame with a Suzuki GSXR750 engine in it. Didn't like the handling( or better described as didn't handle at all ) so sold it to a guy from Newcastle. Last bike was a Tango Orange Honda CB900fb, a 1981 W reg bike a proper street rocket lol.

Quite easy, have you got them on your computer, if so,on the left hand side if your post, you will see, Additional Options, click on that, then press browse, it then goes to your computer and you click on the picture you want to post, if you want a second one, click on, more attachments in small letters at the side, and do the same again. ron h

My main hobbies are avoiding gardening, DIY, shopping, in fact anything mundane - so I can spend more time on my boats !

What Clyde Puffer? Any pictures so far??? ;)

It is a Mount Fleet Models Sealight Puffer, no pictures at the moment.I think it is a fairly good kit but I had problems with the hull, it was not the heightat the rear It was supposed to be, so I have had to build up the edge to make it right so i have a lot of sanding to do. When it is done and undercoated will post pictures

Mmmm, well my other interests are having a slurp of fine wines and also mediaeval British history. I want to eventually take my degree in mediaeval social studies. I am also very interested in WW2, especially from the Axis point of view. German WW2 airplanes are a strong interest, and I used to write for a corporate site on the subject.
Yes....I have NO life!

It would seem my other hobby at the moment is grass cutting , any body know where I can get 50 tonnes of green readymix :'(

Forget the readymix, use copper! Wait a while and it'll turn green all by it's self. Beautiful!

Hey, boatmadman,
No, to the question as to number of hours, just retired. I've been so for almost 5 years now. I probably would have more hobbies, if I had more money. ::) If it were possible, I'd like to visit my "across the pond buddy", Martin.

Have you seen the price of copper on world markets? It would be cheaper to hire Donald Trump to push your mower.
-
Cheaper still to get a couple of sheep Kaylem
-
I'd go with the Donald Trump option, mainly because I'd like to get a closer look at that hairstyle.
-
I like to ride my Honda, being in Australia we have a bit better weather than most of you guys over in the old country (pommyland) and also a lot more open space with lots of windy roads up and down, and as I am now retired I enjoy repairing peoples computers, I also make small display cabinets, and logging semi trailer models for kids from timber, I seem to have most boating fields covered as I have been building since before radio control came out, (yes I am an old Fart) yachts, warships, tugs, speedboats, Subs, hovercraft and anything else that floats. She who will be obeyed fortunately doesn't mind what I do as long as I am not annoying her, so whatever you do may I suggest that you just simply enjoy!!!!

well when not sailing, i sometimes dress up in army gear and go to airsoft events armed with a 6mm bb gun based on the P90, chase the "enemy" down and shoot them, whilst they do the same to me.
eye protection is a must, and face masks are preffered!
nothing better than crawling through the mud and waiting for that kill!

Hey Riggers and FlagD I also like to take a few happy snaps, this one is of Flinders Island, comingfrom the Mainland back to Tasmania..

Other hobbies?
Hmm, how many would you like? ;D
On the car front I have a 1974 Vauxhall HP Firenza (nicknamed a 'Droop Snoot') which was the last one made out of 204 and has never been registered. Probably never will be now, thanks to the machinations of the DVLC. When I retire I plan to get it running and haul it round to some shows. I also have a 1976 Sports Hatch, an estate version of the Firenza and even rarer, only 197 or them were made.
Sticking with transport I have a few Moulton bikes, '60s period ones, not the more modern versions. I have a Safari, (the first one sold to the public) a Speedsix, a Deluxe, a Major and two Mini 4s. Not many of these are rideable at the same time :D
To other forms of modelling, I have an American N scale exhibition layout called Smalltown USA and plans to build a much bigger layout in my loft, but many people say that too........
I make plastic aircraft kits, 1/72 scale military from WWII to modern, and major in converting them to variants the full size manufacturers seem to have missed out on building! I do 1/144 scale airliners as well, and I'm a member of various groups who cater for both of these activities.
I do a lot of MS Flight Simulator flying, both at home on a custom built PC that's prime purpose in life is doing just that, and also on my laptop when I'm working away. I do LOTS of that sadly, so the practical hobbies tends to take a back seat during the working week.
As my wife says, it keeps me off the streets..........

In the height of summer I fly radio control planes - not very well either!. I usually go out with a plane and come back with a bag of bits, that gets recycled and becomes an experimental boat - which more often than not sinks. So I end up sailing my trusted aircraft carrier. And so the cycle goes on. Never mind eh? keeps me out of mischief.
-
I just started again building up some airplane kits like Airfix. Mostly RAF/NAVY and USAF/Marines/NAVY planes from ww2.

Apart from any good wines and spirits- here I am at my favourite when not sitting in the shed.....

Seems an excellent way of scaring off unwanted visitors, quick arrow shaft up the jacksi.....
Do you hit many, Jorg ?

Hi all
When I am not model boating, I love driving my TR7 V8. ohh the sound of 8 cylinders doing
there thing, very very quickly what a rush.
Regards Eric.
-
Before I was uprooted and moved from Canada to Europe, I was working on restoring my 1972 TR6. As well I was involved with a local naval museum, building exhibits and working on stabilising artifacts. I've attached some examples, a replica of a Bangor class minesweeper mess deck and a Carley float I found in a ship breakers yard.

Hi all, its Saturday night and I am usually out dancing ballroom and Latin, which I also do 3 -4 times during the week. So it is unusual to be here on Saturday night but of my two lady partners, one is unwell and the other out of the country.
Now I know of at least 2 other keen model boaters who dance! Are we the only ones?
It should appeal to those technically minded as there are particular steps associated with each of the 9 or 10 dances that I like. And you have to utilise them in the best way to get around the dance floor. To the uninitiated there are 3 kinds of steps. Going along the dance floor, getting round corners, avoiding other dancers, all the time making the lady look good. Any one who thinks its easy, listen to what the male celebrities say on on Strictly Come Dancing. Its a great deal of fun and keeps the weight down!
Its like going round a regatta course with everyone else on the water as well but none of them following the same course.
And then of course there are the ladies............there are always lots of them!
Otherwise I play Duplicate Bridge twice a week and take my turn as Tournament Director.
I fill in the spaces with being Secretary of my model club. You have to be retired to do the above and I think it keeps you young (er) and I can recommend it!
P.S. I am working on 2 sailing boats at the moment and have got 2 boats on to the water so far this year.
PPS then of course there is the ModelMayhem web site!

Other Hobbies, well, I do enjoy hitting a little white ball round a big field and occassionally it falls into a hole after megahits.
My wife insists I enjoy caravanning!!!!!
For those Austin 7 enthusiasts, I can harken back to the 1950,s when I had an Austin 7 Special. Body by Colin Chapman ( later of Lotus fame). The engine had an alloy head, lightened flywheel , double valve springs - Go in those days!!! Only trouble was it still had the original Austin front end with cable brakes, every time I wanted to stop quickly I had to look for a gap 'cause the bloody thing didn't know how to stop!!!! Go over 55 and the headlights fell off!!!

Ken,
I thought it was inspecting petrol stations with your truck, hehehehe ;)

Well I am new to this forum, done model boats years ago, just got back into it with a Prestwich Models Puma Boat, you may of seen my posts of trying to sort out my SC61 engine, but all my other hobbies are still based around R/C, Planes, Cars, 1/5 scale bikes, Vintage Tamiya models, and best of all Helicopters ! I have 10 of them, from mad 3D machines to scale models getting more into scale as the years go by, 3D flying is very hard work at my age and my eyes aint what they used to be. I like to restore models, my latest is a 1979 Morley 47G helicopter, you know the MASH M/C was a pile of junk a real basket case, you cant imagine the kick I got when that first took to the sky! Helicopters have got to be the most rewarding things to fly, its not easy takes you years but its got to be the ultimate form of R/C there is. This boat just came along so thought I would have another go, but to be honest I wish I had never seen it, or the engine that is, I can hear e-bay a calling!
Biscuit.

I DO LIKE TO TINKER WITH A MEATY V8 ;D

I have 2 other hobbies, breeding lake malawi cichlids and..........
Laser, looking at the photo in your last post, I can see you are a schooner man. :o

I've built one kit car and rebuilt another in the last couple of years as I love the older cars so I don't have to worry about computer controlled engines etc. I've also always been interested in sea sailing and built a couple of small yachts and also a 17ft canal cruiser in the past. My other hobbies all involve woodworking.
The model boats came about because I'm now a full time carer to my sweet wife who's been a stroke victim for 12 years now, so the cars are sat un-used as are my model aircraft and I now fear are my boats, But hey the therapy is great ::)
-
Hi everyone, and a happy new year to you all. As you can see I play an upright bass (when its too cold to build my models) with a couple of mates and we play rock & roll and rockabilly (stray cats, bill hayley etc.) we have not played any gigs we just play for fun (a great way to annoy the neighbours!!!!)
-
My other hobby is Model Railways. At the moment I am half way through building a new layout. Three weeks before Christmas I finished my wiring up and tried out the circiut and low and behold I had a couple of crossed wires between the four controllers. So I decieded to give it up until I had finished building the boat and wait until after christmas and until I come back from my weeks respite in Barton Hospital. I have enclosed a picture of one side of the wiring panel there are three more like this,so two crossed wires can't be to bad. And you thought wiring a boat could be hard work.
-

Hi Everyone,
My other hobbies include playing the piano and melodeon (Button Accordion). Also I have started building model RC racing cars.
This is the first one that I have built. I did the paint scheme myself.

All these car nuts, nearly got enough to have our own show! Maybe all turn up in something interesting at the Mayhem sailing day!
-
:) :) :)Hi everyone,
My other hobbies consist of water colour painting (landscapes) but I must admit that I haven't done a picture now for a few years since taking up model boat building. However only last week I puchased a sheet of bockingford(have I spelt it right?) which her indoors is badgering me to put paint on it. If I start I know what will happen..."Stop splashing paint all over the carpet". Don't get this when I am building boats because I am in the garage. My other new hobby is to build small live steam engines and to this end I treated myself to a Lathe on which I am practicing turning etc.
I also used to do quite a bit of star gazing but as I get older the bones start to feel the night chill plus her indoors!! well, she won't let me buy another telescope( I know I'll spend the money on a good Model Boat.
This is a great Forum and it takes me away from my Computer games which is a good thing. All the best. Ceres ;) ;) ;)

Unfortunately here in China its mostly work, work, work... I just got off of a seven-day holiday & spent half of that in factories or the office.
Of course, if I was younger & not married, there would certainly be another hobby I'd love to get deep into but I that would probably mean even less time for my main interest... model boating! ;D

Am seriously thinking of getting back into scale gliders (4 metre span). Had to give it up before I really start at that scale as I needed an aero tow and no one at the plank club was interested in building a tug.
But now you can fit these http://www.icare-rc.com/self_launch_systems.htm#Belt_Driven_SLS which means no more glider tugs and self launch off the ground. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! ;D
-
hi all, when im not making models i like the challenge of hunting shooting and fishing, ;) ;)
you look as if you have mastered the shooting . is the challenge in carrying them all home, I take it you eat a lot of goose!
-
Might as well add my two pennyworth - Metal detecting - amateur radio and country and western. Just wish I had more spare time to do more of all of my hobbies - It's very hard when your retired - it means getting out of bed to do things lol
-
Have to agree with you, Periscope. I'm retired too and I seem to remember a hobby I once had that you could do in bed ...........!

Here's what I do on Saturdays;

Suppose thats your back garden Christian ???

Hehe, actually it's the western approach to the runway, we regularly get airliners and RAF transports barely clearing our mast tops as they land.
-
Hi Rick - I was with a crowd of club members a couple of weeks ago when we were getting ready for a club open day. When all the Gazebos, signs and other bits and pieces were ready we decided to just hang around for a bit and chat. Some said what are we going to chat about - so one of the members said how about recalling our first ever sex experience - my trouble was I couldn't even remember my LAST..... LOL

..... sorry folks, been away this summer with my mates doing races scale 1:5. Powered by 23ccm 2-stroke engine, 3,1 hp it`s good enough for 55 mph. It`s deadweight is about 10 Kilograms. We have decided to built up the cars of the German Master Racing series, mine is the silver/red one.
It`s not that I am bored by boating, just had the need to make something different to open mind and catch up new ideas. ;D
Sitting outside on a hot race with 4 other guys, destroying some sixpacks and enjoying yourself- what else can you ask for? ::)
Anyway, back again!
Happy modeling, Jörg
-
welcome back Ensign,

Hi Grasshopper..... when men turn to boys... ;D roaring noise, sticky fingers and digging in the dirt. Life can be so simple.... (sometimes) ::)
Got a monster scale 1:5, running on 2-stroke as well. Had my tries on 1:8 but never got that glow-engine beast run correctly.... The fun-factor is the most important thing.
Bring on the dirt!

In 2000 I took a break from modelling to build a car for hillclimbs and sprints, since the '70's i've had a love of rear engined Renaults. I was pleased to find a 1970 renault 10 for $100, so thats what i started with, the bought a R16 engine, R18 front suspension that i transplanted into R10 rear along with R18 gearbox then added Toyota Soarer supercharger fed by Holley 350 carby, later fitted EFI from Holden Camira as a result the car went from 48Hp standard to 165Hp at the wheels.
Then the trouble started, my spine already having suffered 3 crush fractures decided it couldn't cope with the G-forces of accelleration & cornering. So it was sold to fund a return to modelling.
Here's a few pic's of my pride & joy.

Think I've maybe seen you on one of my wanted posters Jay. lol
-
Hi Jay,
Metal detecting always seemed such a peaceful hobby... lots of time for reflection.....
Ever found anything intersting?
Martin
PS. From your outfits, I take it you work for the Inland revenue?!?! O0
-
Hi Jay - Martin mentions about your metal detector - you kept that one quiet mate - what are you using?
-
Me Famas is a Airsoft BB shooter running 330 feet per second on 8.4volts and will cut clean through a beer bottle at 20 metres.
Dont know nothing about metal detecting but my scope which is now on can pick people off upto about 70 metres accuratly. {-)

Hey Periscope
If you like Country, check out the old video's on my website.
Bosun
-
Hi Bosun - What a great web site you've got there mate - just had a quick look but I'm going back to it to spend some time on it now. Wonder if you're on The British Country Music site or The Ranch site - or any other, if you are what's your handle on there.
Cheers,
Periscope
-
Hey Bosun - Well I reckon your web site is about the best country music one I've seen - Some really great old videos of Willie Nelson, Ray Charles. Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash to name but a few. I know you haven't answered my earlier reply but I reckon you must be on one or more of the Country Music Forums - Please let me know about that - I'd like to recommend your personal web site to some of the folk I chat to on the forums if that's OK with you - there's quite a lot who really like original country music style - your own songs certainly seem to follow that pattern too.
Best Regards,
Periscope
-

I am trying a new past time with r/c drag racing 1/10 electric and nitro cars. Unfortunately, the nearest track is about 5 hours drive away in Chicago Illinois. I have tried oval carpet racing , but never got the hang of the chassis set up to be fast enough.

Hi Jolly Roger,
I've never done IC cars (I'd love to have a go!), what involved in r/c drag racing?

Blimey ! Where do I start ? ! :o
Motorbikes -- I own a Honda VTR 1000 SP1 and a Kawazaki ZZR250 and live on the Isle of Man - BLISS !!! {-) {-)
4x4 offroading - Very highly modified Vauxhall Frontera, with Toyota Hilux front and rear axles on hilux leaf springs ( no nammby-pamby independent front suspension for me ! ), 35" tyres, winch and custom winch bumper, difflocks, custom rocksliders, 12" suspension lift,
Photography - this is my most prolific hobby as it is combined with all my other hobbies ( never go anywhere without a camera ) and also earns me a few quid a year with the motorsports on the isle of man making up most of my trade in photographs. I also have my own website - www.tt-photos.net
Radio control models - Currently building a 1/32 scale Brave Borderer - see thread below :- http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=9941.0 Also I have two r/c heli's and about 30-odd r/c cars - touring, offroad, rockcrawlers, custom builds, custom conversions.

Andi
-
Hi there Andy,
I have just bought a Dickies Unimog, any help with changing all the guts would be a big help!
Russ
-
Hi Russ,
Best thing I could probably do is to point you in the direction of the UK Radio Control Rock Crawlers forum -
http://www.ukrcrc.com/site/
Plenty of people on there have done these conversions - some using the Tamiya CC-01 chassis, some using custom chassis - and I would suspect , now that Tamiya have released a rock crawler kit - the CR-01 chassis too !
I havent done one of these myself, so I am not familiar with how they are put together. I am planning to get hold of a New Bright Discovery 3 in the G4 orange livery though !
Regards
Andi
