Well last year I set of for the show with some money in my pocket and a list of things to buy. When I got there I met Phil & Martin. Spent me money had a look round the boats. Hum what shell I do now? I know  phone the wife and tell her to put the Sunday dinner on as there was very little there for us petrol heads. 1 hour and it was all done.  ??? dose anyone from OMRA ever get asked to show there wares? Photo's boats, videos.  NA  Oh well to all who go there are enjoy the show good luck but i will give it a miss this year and save the fuel driving there. (Sorry).

If you can't make this show then their Model Engineering show is 50% made up of model boat clubs though there are zero boat traders. Hve to agree with Bill that these two shows are really only half a show each. They should have some kind of 'green' fine for making you travel twice.

Post by: SteamboatPhil on September 03, 2009, 09:36:58 am
I shall of course make space for all mayhemers to meet at the Blackheath stand (tea--no sugar) every day for a catch-up / chin wag. (Midday again ?)
Sadly Larry no huge royalty cheques coming my way, still they got my best side (no joke please----cos I know what you are thinking)
Now Bill, if you are not using that turbo nutter beastie boat of yours over that time, I'm quite happy to exhibit it on my stand (you get free entry then)
(I'm also exhibiting at the Model Engineer Exhibition with a stand full of scrap metal---well steam engines really)

If you havn't got a name badge, let me know and I'll make one up for you, and you can collect from my stand.

 :-)) :-)) :-))

My thoughts exactly the reason for not attending ally pally was lack of support due to cost of staying in london and we are a nation wide club i myself do at least 2hours to get to any show so thats half a tank of fuel gone before you take into accommidtion fot the show and food while there etc

Why don't you modellers get together and do swap lodgings between yourselves to save money.  Surely those with common interests could work something out even if it's only a sleeping bag on the floor and a bacon butty for breakfast.  At least it could save a long same-day return trip .........?

Picked up a wall calendar from Ally Pally this year which shows the International Model Boat Show as being 13,14 and 15 November.
Booked hotel early to save money and guess what, it not on those dates and hotel is not refundable.
Does anybody in this country know what they are doing anymore?

But that's nearly two months' away! I'd check your consumer rights at a CAB or in the Hotel's small print to see if there's any redress available.

The servo follows the movement of the stick.
So a small movement on the stick produces a small movement on the servo.
The servo mimics the stuck travel.
Some radio sets have just switches on channel 5 and 6 which is just full travel on the servo IE off - full on.

Those are 110% - especially when being too far away to get to them. It's the detail one doesn't catch on the first view - nice to have them all in a group. I see even the old mid island ones of mine are still up for viewing! Still not mastered the art of photography yet!

In the job lot of boats I bought is a part “built” Aerokits 46” Sea Queen.

I use the term “built” as it appears to have been put together with hot melt glue and very few of the ply skins actually meet where they should., and where they "meet" there are 3-4 mm gaps.I can probably de construct it with hairdryer, but I am not sure if it is worth the effort.

Is there anyone going to be at Warwick on Friday who can have a look and point me in the right direction?

I also have no plans or drawings for it other than one small sheet of construction details.

I would post a photo but cannot bring myself to put a photo of such bad building on here.

Jim,

Meridienne are commendably strict on letting boats into and out of the show, so you might have a problem getting your "model" in for Phil to look at. Of course, you could always take Phil out to look at it in your car, that would get him away from those trying to spend his £20 note for a while {-) %% {-) %%

Question is - can you come up with a good enough reason not to have one - or more in each model.

Incidentally anyone interested in a competition to see who has the most Action stuff in a single model.......

Oh Lord, bless my heart!

Its very easy to get around in a wheelchair or scooter, there are disabled parking bays near the front entrance (which has a ramp) and there will be parking attendants there to help you your scooter out. Drop by the stand and say hi  :-))

Errrr some i cannot say!!! But the silly spelling mistakes on some of the notes about boats are good!! (one 8ft bot has a 4.5mm prop!!!!) But I think the Surface Warship and Lifeboat stands are both excellant. The friendliness of all the traders and exhibitors is great, and the general public are eager not only to listen but to share their experiances with you about their time either building boats or of actually sailing the real boats!

Meeting Xtian and Steamboat Phil of course, Guy and Martin again of Blackheath park club and in general all the traders who we do not normaly  SEE but converse with over internet or phone!!!

Nice to see you again, don't know what all the fuss was about re the loud shirt,

The site I mentioned re your little George Turner Tug was "Phils Workbench" -  some interesting stuff,
look at the bottom of the right hand margin Tomsk Tug - I think this was the one in your carrier bag.
looking forward, as ever, to the show pics.  You are giving a great service to the hobby.

:-)) Just want to say what a great show again this year, some terrific models on display and great trade support.

Martin, it was good to meet you(by Howes stand early Saturday morning)  and as I said to you, partly because of your excellent build review of Mountfleets Highlander I went with the intention of treating myself to one. After much deliberation and a beer at lunchtime I took the plunge and ordered one.i was hoping to bring one home with me but they had sold the three Highlanders they took on Friday.Still I can enjoy the anticipated arrival of mine towards next weekend.

My mate bought a Deans Marine mgb77  and he's asked me to help him with that as he's more used to bigger semi scale stuff ,so I defo should'nt get bored this winter.

Thanks also to the organisers and the trade who attended as this makes for my favourite show, long may it reign.

And finally to you Martin, thanks for a terrific website, your efforts are appreciated.
                                                                                                      Cheers Andy(Balders)

Interesting to see George Turner has boat kits on the market again. Lower prices too as they are now completely vac-formed. Sadly this means things like lifebelts are now moulded in but for the money they can't be beat !

Hi Guys
Paul and myself had a great weekend and the Pie was great ,
Paul got the last bit on Friday so I had to watch him eat .
I didn't know he could get up stairs so fast.
Saturday I got extra to make up for it.
Went out for a Beer or 3 in the evening with Steamboat Phil .
Fitted more boats in the car coming home than going, but thats the Norm...
Still the best show of the year roll on next year.
I will try to post some pictures later this week.

well, the dust has finally settled and the car is now emptied,

again a great show and what a refreshing change to see a whole load on ' new models'   sometime you can recognise the same models at each show you attend !!!

good to see the mayhemmers at the blackheath stand, especially   Xtian, is was great to meet you !- also Dave buckingham too !-

( and it was good to catch up with mayhemmers i have known for a while..... andy, debs, delboy, lifeboat paul, klunk et al... you know who you are !- our stand was within 10 feet of FLJ too, looks like business was good !- )

i got a picture or two to post, one has phil and his legendary £20 note in it !!! ( your secret is safe with me phil    :-)))

i will get these up in the next day or so....

the french boats were amazing.....  big enough to cross the channel  on their own   !!!!!!!

and my wallet came home emptier too- so now have some winter projects to be getting on with..... who knows one may be a new models for next years show !!!

but another good show and great to see the hobby represented in so many different models all in one place....

hopefully the weekend was good for the traders too, long may it continue......

Had an amazing day at Warrickshire, it really has to be the best boat show around. I took my father, it was his first ever show and it he loved every moment of it! It was good to see some Mayhemers, though in my excitement of the show with so much to see i didn't ask their names lol. It was good to say a quick hello to Martin in person, he was easy to spot with that techno-coloured shirt...good idea that  :-)) My personal favourite was the River Duck model, I thought that was very unique and i'm keen at some point to have a go at making one of my own, like i say...one day!

You're not wrong Guy. Hard work? I'd forgotten just how much this show takes!
We got to the Exhibition Centre around 3pm on Thursday and, after the ritual debate with Mr Car Parking Man about what constitutes a trade vehicle and what is a private car, we unloaded the Corolla and put up the stand in about 2 hours.
Friday morning, and there were folks waiting at the stand when we got there at 9am. I was hoarse by 12 noon and I reckon the stand was three deep continuously until around 4pm. Saturday was pretty much the same, with the admirable Dr Wombat and his magic laptop ministering to three reluctant P100 prototypes while at the same time trying to explain its intricacies to the multitudes. Mrs Wom was also on hand, threatening me with a camera continuously and sneaking off a few candid shots where I'd forgotten to scowl properly...............
Sunday was much busier than we expected, although the customers were more of the "I need advice and I'll have a think about it" variety.
We did a normal five weeks' business in slightly less than 18 hours. That's busy in anyone's language.
We drove home in a state which could best be described as an exhausted trance; unloaded the car and collapsed into the lounge after a couple of ready-meals. I forget who woke up who when it was well past bedtime. This morning we counted what stock remained and I've just finished the paperwork for about twelve orders which we couldn't do last week for lack of time.
Now I've a couple of repairs to do; help Liz pack those orders and then start building up the stocks again......................and I thought I'd retired in 2006.
Good to see so many Mayhem members there - and I even saw Phil's legendary £20 note (but he cheated and paid for his ACTion bits with his card!).

Hello,

Back home in Brittany!
I would like to thank the organizers for their kindness and dedication, and the modelers who have come talked to us! The English are nice people and very friendly! Martin is really very sympa! Thank's for your welcome!!!

I hope to return one day to another exposure in England.

Thank you for everything!

Kénavo,

Philippe!

Your fishing boat was simply superb, amazing inner detail! Any chance of some inner cabin detail pictures?

Many thanks, Philippe.  An excellent website and great photos. :-))

Wish the show organisers would double the size of their exhibition hall - I'm sure it would be filled with more clubs and more traders.

Derek.
