Title: Hello and advice much appreciated!
Post by: hatt11 on September 28, 2009, 07:38:09 pm
Hi Guys,

A great forum you have here and you seem a really friendly bunch!

I am looking to build a scale model of my RIB. I have experience of large boat building and fibreglass so would like to create my own hull. Would any one have any tips/advice or maybe point me in the direction of some.

What size could I go to Id like it as big as possible?

What would be the best way to create a plug for a planing hull with chines etc?

Any help much appreciated.

Regards,

Luke

What size do you want the rib,if you can give an overall lenght of the model you require, and the real boat you want to reconstruct.
The real help, will come in,once Alan has woken them up  {-)

Id like it to be around a 1.5m long tho this may limit me to what size engine I would require. It is based on a 6 metre boat, tho it all depends on whether I am capable of constructing a plug of this size!

To me, all RIBs look the same but do you have any pictures of yours Luke?

I've never built a mound myself, I wonder if a chat with Model by Design would be efficacious!

Hi Luke

There was a build log of a build of an RNLI atlantic 75 a couple of years ago you can find it here http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6097.0 (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6097.0) it might give you an idea or two especially around the sponson.
