Title: Seehund x 2,"why are they different"
Post by: Wasyl on October 09, 2009, 09:55:13 am
Hi guys,i,ve been contemplating buying a Seehund, and am watching 2 at the moment on ebay, but there is a marked difference between the two,i like the looks of the one on German ebay, but can,t understand why the one on British ebay is so different, unless the German one has been modified,
this one,29035640503,is the German one,and the other the Brit,340430252500

Wullie,

One is a Seehund the other is a Seekatze. Whatever you do don't buy both of them or there will be an awful racket in your neighbourhood ...  {-) {-) {-)

 {-) {-) {-) {-)don,t you have a job to go to,you,re becoming,like my Shadow,I,m no sooner on here,but you,re creeping up behind me, {-),they both look similar,but i,already have a cat/dog,so another 2 won,t make much difference,apart from emptying my wallet,

No nitpickers allowed,I,m of the opinion that Russ,s boat looks lthe Dogs B******S,and i,d be happy with it,after all,Tadpoles and minnows can,t tell the difference ,if its in scale or out,

If you compare the German ebayers to the Brittish one you,ll notice the German one has the saddle tanks on each side of the hull, where as the other does,nt,its with these that i think it looks better, were these standard or are they an add on

Only a few Seehunds were fitted with saddle tanks to improve range. OTW sell a very nice one  http://www.otwdesigns.com/Seehund/Seehund_big.htm

There were a lot of differences between the seehunds, although most of the variations were quite subtle. These were weapons of desperation and constantly evolving.

The old hull made by Dave Diplock is well out, so if scale authenticity is what you are after, then I'd pass on it. Having said that they build into nice looking models, they work well and only someone well clued up on Seehunds would be able to point out the faults.

The OTW hull that Ramesh mentioned is very good. Even then, it's a 'generic' hull, because all the photos that Bob received of different boats had differences in construction.

I haven't seen the RPM tech boat up close. But the pictures look good, and as it's based on the Russian plans so it's very accurate. A very small boat at that scale, would operate in the smallest of ponds and nice tuck-under-the-arm size. Bit expensive for what you get IMO.

Yes, Rick does excellent work.  I have one of RPM Tech's Seehunds which is one of the reasons why he's doing our new 1/72 Foxtrot kit.

Wait until you see what he has planned next in German midget subs.  :o  :-))

Have you seen photos of the Seehund on display in Groton, CT?
