I would like to build my first model boat this winter and would welcome your opinions on the suitability or otherwise of my selection. I would like to build the Caldercraft model of S S Talacre. I have read the most informative thread about the bridge of the model requiring modification and also found the link to a photograph of the vessel. I have a fair amount of experience building O gauge railway models - but not locomotives. I am a total novice on rc matters but at least own a soldering iron and other modelling tools.! I am not in a rush to complete the model, so can take my time to try and do a good job.
If there is a more suitable model in roughly the same price range, I would be pleased to hear about it.
With thanks,
AEG :-)

I did the Milford Star by Caldercraft and I must say that the instructions were terrible, the main drawing was not to scale and other drawings were more or less non existent. I did however end up with a nice looking model though not one I would recommend for a beginner as it nearly drove me round the bend. I believe the Talacre is very similar.
If you send Footski a personal message he can help you out as he has done the Talacre.

AEG,
Welcome aboard and as Dicky says if you send me a pm I have plenty of photos of my Talacre for you. She makes into a superb model, and is suitable for both the beginner and more experienced modeller alike.

I did the original Talacre review for Model Boats magazine and can send you a copy if it would be helpful, I don't think the kit has changed all that much. If you want it PM me with your email address.

Similar one with the bridge the right way round.
