Title: Radios/Crystals
Post by: mfv1132 on November 25, 2006, 06:43:36 pm
I have come into posession of a Radio its  a         Futaba--(  6 EXHP )Its for Helicopters. Could this be used for boats if the Crystals were changed and if so does anyone know what Crystals i would need to purchase?
Any help would be appreciated. The Receiver (6 channel) also receives on 35MHz band.

No is the simple answer.

35Mhz band is restricted to aircraft only - swapping to 40Mhz crytals just won't work.
If it has a removeable modulator unit you could get a replacement 40Mhz unit and then use it but you'd still need a new receiver.

Thanks Scottie. One other point,According to the handbook, under the heading TRANSMITTER it states "transmitting on 35,40,41,or72MHz.It says the same for theReceiver. What does this mean? I was hoping it meant i could use the Radio on any of these  bands.
I should be most grateful for you views.

Unfortunately I don't know this particular set so I'm not certain if it has an interchangeable modulator. I think the 'mod' unit is usually a plastic box which plugs into the main board. If you open the back and have a look you might be able to see if it looks like it plugs in - the aerial will screw into it so if you're gonna start pulling take the aerial out first and be careful not to pull too hard on anything you find.
That being said, if the 'mod' unit is chageable you will still have to buy a new receiver as well as crystals.

Just my opinion but if you've no use for the set as it is you might be best to put it on ebay and buy a full new set.

What the manual means is that the set is available in all those frequency variations depending on where its sold. You could probably get away with 40Mhz crystals in a 41Mhz set, but not in a 35Mhz one.

Thanks Barie,

I just realised I went off on a tangent and didn't actually answer the question.
