Thanks Christian,
Am I right in assuming the ensign would also have the RAF roundel on it?
thanks

Could anyone confirm that RSL 1641 ended up in the Maldives ?

according to RAF records
Two RSLs were were broken up during their service as being 'beyond economic repair' (1641 at Gan in 1974 and 1649 at Plymouth in 1979)

Gan - the RAF's "Own Island in the Sun" (1960s recruiting poster!). Situated on Addu Atoll in the Maldive Islands, 1941-1976, I was lucky enough never to visit it during my Service career. There is a book about it by Peter Doling which sometimes crops up in our local library - I'll have a look and see if it says anything about 1641 next time I'm there.

Thanks for the info', I have the MAP plans for the RSL as pictured, my brother built one in the 60s and I got the plans after he built it - started one in the 70s and then moved countries and never finished it - It's been on my to-do list since then!
The original plan it suggests the typical black hull, grey / white uppers as a colour scheme, it was only when I started working with an 'ex-RAFie' we got talking about boats and he showed me pictures of 1641 and 1667 in 'tropical white' from Gan, when he was stationed there in the 70s.
I will build it one day - but will modify the plans to give a proper hull shape/ profile as per the photo's and not as the plan.
