Thanks from a very grateful user ,

Used to do it, now I have so many prescription drugs in my blood it would be positively dangerous to do so. :((
-
Congratulations Portside,
Up to forty odd pints now. Been giving since 82, but had a spell overseas when I was on the emergency list but never called. Next due 24 Feb 2010.
Cheers
Doug

when you get to whatever the number is (cannot remember) you get invited down to London for a meal and a presentation. It was great fun as you do not know who will be there!
-
Gave 18 but got 10 back. Not allowed to give now.

I did it for years until I was knocked off my bike and one day when I was in hospital they said my bloods were low so I needed a pint. They plugged me in to the drip (I reckon from the date on the bag it could well have been the stuff I'd given the week before) and half way through the bag the nurse came and told me yesterday's bloods were back and mine was perfectly ok and I didn't need the transfusion but there was no point in stopping it half way through. When I came out of hospital I got a letter saying I couldn't give blood ever again because the transfusion might have given me BSE. I think this was the thing that most upset me about the accident. But the NHS were marvellous - from the moment I got to the hospital I was treeted like a king. I used to work in the MoD and when the van came round all the wimpy civil servants who gave were fine - it was the rufty tufty soldiers who passed out in rows!
-
Thanks to all donors :-)) :-)) :-)). In the past I have had to receive some of the good stuff and without donors like you, people like me would have not survived. Once again THANKS.
Regards David

Martin can we have a geriatric old smiley.
-
Not a smiley, but will this do ?
-
DickyD....we can all have fun remembering past times..........when I was 200 ft from the blood bank door & found my arm leaking BIG RED drops of liquid...went back along the terrazzo corridor & reported the leakage to the senior sister who simply said.....we are not worried about your arm...... >>:-( ...but who will clean all of those blood drops from the floor?
However I suggest DickyD ......your latest posting here is an absolute & total disgrace in the representation of a blood Doner.... >:-o... ....very disappointed ....I am also surprised that the Global set of Moderators did not question this same posting.........Derek
-
Derek we have long realised that you have no sense of humour.
I put that on in responce to Daz's posting.
I would also like to point out that I have given blood on a regular basis for 40 odd years and I don't find it at all offensive.
Still if it makes you feel good please report it to the moderators and I will abide by their decision.
Happy now ?

ONLY ON MAYHEM CAN A CHAP POST SOMETHING HE IS JUSTLY PROUD OF ( and I for one am very grateful) FOR IT TO END UP WITH A ROW
Peter

klunk says ......"Its a bit of a cheat cos I was matched to a baby for platelets for 3 years and you donate every 2 weeks"
I think most would disagree with you here 'klunk'....the only cheating you did was against the condition of the child & conseques of the not having the platelet support of a dedicated donor :-)) ....Derek

Being a blood donor is an admirable thing regardless of how often and how much is given.
Acknowledging one's indebtedness to the Blood Bank is also worthy.
Let's keep it to that, please folk and maintain both a sense of humour and a sense of proportion.
This thread is being watched, closely. If it gets out of hand it will be locked.

Ok lads I think this subject has run long enough because nobody has taken into consideration here is that there are people from all religions and beliefs on our Forum – so time to knock this on the head - I do not think that this topic is right for the forum.

What !!
Its under chit chat , what's the problem.. So just because some religions do not believe in giving / receiving blood which is not a problem , we can not talk about it. !! I have also had a few pints of the stuff from donors and so am also very grateful..

We can talk about anything in Chit-Chat, provided it is legal and decent.
In doing so I am sure we will all want to avoid giving offence to others but that does not mean we cannot talk about things in which others do not believe or which they find difficult or uncomfortable.
It is all about how we do it.
On Mayhem we have difficulty about "decency" sometimes but the Moderators attempt to steer a careful path. We keep in mind that this is a family site and also, that what you say and how you may say something down the pub is best not put into writing. We do draw the line very decidedly on the side of avoiding crudeness and smut. At the end of the day it is Martin's Web Site and the standards he insists on will be observed.
Out of interest, here is the Moderators self-guidance on free speech:
This Forum provides an opportunity to express opinions on a whole range of topics, not just model boating.
However,Martin (as the Site Owner and the one person who must ultimately carry the can for everything
that goes on in the Forum)and the Moderators he has appointed, are determined to ensure that all opinions
are expressed reasonably.
The Forum does not offer the right of uninhibited, free speech.
