hi all

I would like to put one of these on my hovercraft but i am not sure how to do it ie do you gust make them yourself or do you buy them i have a catch though i have a solar panel on top of my hovercraft and i would like to use it to power the radar see link any tips

This is in fact dead easy.

Take a dead servo, remove the electronics from it. Attach the leads for the motor to a standard Rx battery pack - add a shaft to the top of the servo and attach the shaft to the top of your radar!

Perfect scale radar speed. :)

That will be too much current for the motor speed, 5-6v is too much for slow rotation, you should connect it up to a single 1.5V cell which will give you the correct speed.

be sure the servo is not totaly dead... or the motors not gonna work at all, just one that the gears have gone from.

Or you could try a radar motor unit from MMB  http://marksmodelbits.com/ (http://marksmodelbits.com/) (under the motor section)

With the price of servos at rock-bottom levels you hardly need to be fussed about finding a dead one - Giant Cod do a servo at £2.18, which is cheap enough not to worry about ripping the insides out... http://www.giantcod.co.uk/towerpro-sg90s-micro-servo-p-403861.html

Good point about the current - its been a while since i did this and indeed your correct.

Preferably, dead electronics and working motor and gearbox.  It will need the output gear end stop removing, and the output gear needs a full set of teeth all the way round.
Like DG says, servos can be had cheap enough to use as a parts mine and experiment a bit.

Yes thats my photo stream hi Sam by the time i got it right it would of been just as easy and cheap to get a radar motor from model motors direct which will run all day if you look closely at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmq9q5wt1To you can see the radar going round via the solar panel

not yet we dont have a club meeting for a while but i have been sent a message about one that for sale made from scaffold planks and i am waiting for a reply

decided against the pool as the scaffold planks were far to big to be transported easily they needed a trailer or a LWB van
