can anyone recommend a suitable grease for my schottel drive units for the gears and shafts also where can i get some.

You might like to visit your local garage workshops.
I was chatting to the man in mine and explained that I was building a model boat and he gave me a free 'scoop' of 'water pump' grease. Obviously designed to get wet. ;D

As there are plastic gears you have to watch they are not melted. try looking at tamya model car products as they are designed for the purpose. Peter

The best is a grease with teflon, if there are plastic-gears inside. But just a reasonable quantity as the grease otherwise can harm the bearings (depending on the pressure on the gears).
Another excellent stuff is thick Silicone-oil.

I use wheel bearing grease in my schottel drives, and have not yet had a drive gear fail, four of the units are now over twenty years old and work perfectly......

Robbe do a grease made for what you want it for. Its called shaft lubricant. :)
