Title: Westbourne Model of the Hood...Any opinions ?
Post by: Lenticular on December 15, 2009, 09:32:52 pm
I wonder if anyone has seen or even owned the Westbourne model of the Hood.

http://www.westbourne-models.com/premium-line-ready-built-h-m-s-hood-9022-0.html

I have already introduced myself in the new members section, stating that I have limited dexterity, so I really need a ready built model.

Would this be a good buy or any suggestions of alternatives. (Warships in general)

The Hood is made by Graupner and our club captain has one. It is a very impressive model.

I would suggest you look around for other prices as these vary quite considerably from supplier to supplier.

A Model World would be a good place to start.

At the moment their web site is showing the price as £ 725.00  :-))

i don't want to sound of, but a little truth is missing in your statement.

the Firm Graupner only import this Model into Europe, they don't make this model at all.
this model and about 99.99% of all other ARTR models are made in a Far away country in a general Easterly direction.

the question then arises, does the UK import from Graupner, or does the UK import directly from the makers.
that would of course make a difference in the price.

I stand corrected. Bit pedantic though. Does it really matter, just look around for the best price. :-))

From experience, having had a Graupner Premium model of an ARTR Prinz Eugen,i can honestly say, that whilst the build quality of the model is very high, the supplied motors and prop shafts were not so good,It may have said Graupner on the box, that it came in,but it did not say Graupner on the motors, and whilst you may be led to believe that by buying a Graupner model,  you are getting a model built in Germany,Well, you won,t,all these ARTR,models are made in China, and as i,ve said the build is good, but some of the materials are???, as for prices, well thse vary greatly,I have seen the Hood for sale at the really low price of £625 and as high as £1100,
I got my Prinz Eugen for 340 euro,s at a time when there were 1.38 euro,s to the pound, just recently on ebay there were two Graupner models for sale,1 x Prinz Eugen,1 x Graf Spee,in fact i think the Eugen is still on,

If you do get one VARNISH THE DECKS they are a thin layer glued on a plastic surface and are only stained therefore will warp and bubble when wet. If you have dexterity issues you may find internal access a bit of a struggle.
