Anyone know where I can buy loose lead shot, the stuff that anglers use? I need around 1.5-1.75lbs of the stuff for ballast, and it's going to be awful expensive to buy enough in the little tins that fishing tackle shops sell it in.
I presume a gunsmith may stock it?

Rich,
Gunsmiths do stock it for repacking shotgun shells.
Not sure about the law,as anybody can buy it now.
Not used my gun in years.

My local gunsmith supplies 5kg kegs of No. 6 Shot for approx £11. It's brilliant stuff, runs like water into all crevices and is retained in place with a slug of Davids Isopon resin.
I've heard of some folk who make up small bags of the stuff to facilitate localised ballasting.
If you have the time, inclination and spare lead flashing you could always cut it into very thin strips with the aid of tinsnips and then cut the strips into VERY small pieces. The end result is very similar to Shot, but a word of caution, the process is more boring than watching paint dry and is best done whilst Deadenders, which is even more mind numbing in comparison, is on the Telly.

Divers supply shops sell it.
Don't buy anglers substitute lead shot unless space for the ballast isn't a problem as it's lighter. Anglers don't use lead as it poisons swans.
