Title: HMT SAPPER

"Sapper" was the minesweeper on which my grandfather died in 1918. I have been unable to trace much information other than she was one of the ships built for the Navy as a minesweeper but based on a trawler (hence the HMT). I believe there were very many such boats (even hundreds).

Any pictures or suggestions of what she may have looked like? I would like to add her to my list of "Must Builds".

Just had a quick look on the web. List of 1914-1918 losses says she was lost 29/12/1917 in North Sea. Several diving sites mention HMT Sapper as being in good condition about 10m off Selsey, which is hardly North Sea. Confusion with another boat, Sapper Herbert Bennett?? Another site says all the crew were lost.

There was another HMT Sapper in WW2, part of the 'Military' class. Perhaps your Sapper was part of a class also, which would make finding photos of a similar ship easier.
