if you use a external water tank to connect to your clack valve so you can do a quick top up without having to have a have water tanks or spanners to tighten up joints this is what you need , got a few of these today and they look ideal they are even a dry break not that you need one so it would be easy to have a tank and hand pump to top up boiler before you release the boat etc.

Here's another source, perhaps more convenient for N.American modelers, for brass quick connects. Both single shut off ($10) and double shutoff ($37) available:

Another option is to replace the clack valve with a Goodall valve. This might be desireable if you have trouble with the clack ball sticking:
