Title: rigging question

can anyone help, I am at the stage of rigging my 52" Schooner  based on "Bluenose" I would like the ropes to look as authentic as possible, I have been looking at 3mm dia coloured polypropylene braided cord which I can purchase in black, also another product is super lon bead/mac cord o.8mm dia.
Has anyone used this material or used something like it? {:-{

Is it Bluenose I or II.

I am not sure of the era, but if it is B II, then steel ropes and bottle screws may have been on the original.

I'd have a look in the fishing tackle shops. They now stock loads of braid in various thicknesses. Some of it is horrendously expensive mind.

I have bought 75lb S/S plastic coated wire from a fishing tackle shop, I have also bought backing line for fly fishing reels, but this was either orange or white in colour, I was hoping someone had used Polyproylene braid cord before and could say if it was ok, it looks the part and is black, and it is not expensive £2-60 plus £1-00 postage for 70 mtrs, I'll give it a try and let you know

I use a lot of jewelry cord  (£7.50 for a 50m reel) it comes in various colours and thickness and is very strong ( at a guess 30 - 35lb  breaking strain) I buy mine by the reel from a local craft shop
  I also use cord from Quicks the Archery people ... they have a good selection

I used a poly cord years ago in dark brown for the shrouds of the barge, at least I assume it was poly. It came in a 'selection' bag of various colours and sizes from a yacht chandler in Leytonstone. I took the precaution of hanging lengths with a heavy weight from a door overnight to remove any stretch in it.  This wasn't braided just normal twist and worked a treat.
