Title: engine size versus hull length

Has anyone come across a "rule of thumb" for engine size versus hull length?

Prop Shop in the 1992 catalogue, as Chart 1, did publish a "sort of" guide but that was for electric motors against hull types and prop sizing.

Their Chart 2 was for IC engines, prop sizes and hull types but NO lengths were specified.

Not as such, but I know pn petrol that most hulls 40" plus are running 26cc, when you get toward 55 to 60" plus then either twin motors or more, some 40cc BVlata's around.

For submerged drive, the FSRV type model the sizes are governed more around how smll they can get away with for a given size motor.

What hull are you thinking of, then we can make some engine suggestions?

There couldn't possibly be a given rule, as every hull is different. There probably isn't much in the way of calculations you could do either.

Get a hull, stick an engine in it. If it looks ok, get a bigger engine. Job done...
