Can anyone explain how many links per foot as in most of the common scales as i don't know which to buy mostly for tugs.

hi there
I had the same question so did a rough measure when I got a visit to HMCS Montreal

each link is approx 12" long
so it depends on what scale you are building if it was
1/72 then it would be 6 links per inch
1/36 would be about 3 links per inch

Not quite true. The anchor cable/ chain is not a standard length per link. For instance, would you expect a VLCC to have an anchor cable with links the same size as a harbour tug? Of course not. In fact, many small vessels have "unstudded" chains. The "stud" is only there to prevent the chain binding (locking up) and so preventing the the chain from running free. A small vessel could well have links as small as 4" in length ....so you make your choice. There is a table of sizes required somewhere, but I'm just too tired to look for it at the moment. BY.

Try this     http://www.h-lift.com/anchorchain.htm

Just remember that chain size is measured by the size of the round bar from which it is forged and not by its length or any other dimension.
