Hello,
I want to modify one of my Spektrum DX6i transmitters so both sticks are sprung (self centering) to control my tug with two independant motors. Has anyone opened a DX6i up and done this? I have a damaged DX5e which I assume I can use the spring mechanism out of.
Thanks

I've done the same thing in reverse! I wanted both vertical axes to be ratchet as I intend to operate two sail winches on these two axes. I've also had the back off my dX5e but not recently. I'm not convinced from memory that the stick units are identical. If they are then no problem, it's easy enough to do. If you need specific DX6i components then ther used to be aa contact in Horizon Hobbies service deartment who'd send you the bits taken from dead sets. The chap in question has moved on but I imagine a call to the same department might still get you the bits.
Cheers
Guy

Hi Guy,
I have had a peep in my DX5e and you are correct the sticks are different to the DX6i. However I have a spare DX6i here that I was going to sell so I opened both DX6i's up and swapped the whole stick assembly (just one electrical connector and 4 allen screws). I now have a Spektrum DX6i with two self centering sticks, just tested it with my Ormesby Cross tug and it works a treat. The down side of course is I now have a DX6i with two 'ratchet' sticks. You say you used this set up for two sail winches, maybe I can sell it on ebay using that as a feature!

Hi Ixion,
I would be interested in buying your redundant DX6i. Have you thought of a price please.
Pm me if you want privacy.

ixion, I have done exactly as you said and it works fine. I was very lucky enough to get in contact with the place I bought it from ( I can't remember who now) and they sent me the spare spring, pin and whatever else was required to make the conversion and with a degree of trepidation I pulled it apart. If you refer regularly to the other self centering stick the job is straightforward and, although i can't rememebr exactly the procedure I do remember that it was pretty easy to do.
If you have a spare dx6i then you do have the bits you need to do what you want but you will then end up with one set with neither sticks self centrering and the other with both.
