Has anybody any idea of what this might be?
My dad got hold of it, probably in the late forties, early fifties and it wasn't new then. It originally had two shafts, each with two props on, one coarse and a much finer one at the end of the shaft, only one of the coarse props is left. There used to be a big brass 'A' frame (more of an 'M' really...) to support the end of the shafts. At some point dad converted it to have a single shaft (as it only had the one it in), and that's what the central hole in the keel is.
As far as he knew, it had never been completed and never knew what the deck would have looked like.
Some sort of lake speed boat? It just looks somewhat odd with the vertical bow, and that massive tumblehome on the stern.
Cheers

A straight line runner perhaps?

Dunno either... beautiful lines though! :-)

I've seen that(or one like it)before, years back now at a show we did...I'm thinking Derby? Possibly Derby....
It had a most weird prop set up, something similar to Turbinia's set up...two props on one shaft, the end supported by a bracket. I'll have a look through some of my old stuff and see what I can find for you, Lance.
The name 'Ionia' keeps coming back to me....? Or something with 'Ionia in the name?

It won't have been this one, it's been in Dad's shed for about forty years... ok2
It would be interesting to see what you find out.
The straight runner is a good idea, I can see this holding a course fairly well, if fact I would assume sharp turns would not be the order of the day with this thing.

Hi, With tumblehome like that it looks like the straight runners of yore, this type of design was very popular in the north east when S/R was at its height. It is odd, but I have just been given a 5ft boat like that one, built in tinplate & from the late 40s.

Its a great piece of wood work, and it most certainly would have been built as a straight runner, probally would have had a very simple, low semi-scale type cabin and a large electric motor (well they were all large back then) :-))

Cheers guys! :-))
