The model is being built in fibreglass the Hull moulding is now finished and the deck moulding will be finished soon. By the time of the show it is hoped to have some of the rowing mechanism installed. The model will be displayed with associated drawings and research about the boat. Photographs and the build log can be seen at www.lifeboatmodels.co.uk/pullinglifeboat.htm (http://www.lifeboatmodels.co.uk/pullinglifeboat.htm)

Now I bet you lot thought I'd gone to a better place.........well there is none better than Mayhem land, sadly (depends on which way you look at it) I have (and indeed still am) away touring with a show at present, so getting online has been a nightmare, but here I am at last, back in the fold (as it were).
Now of course I shall make available the corner of the Blackheath stand for midday meets for all Mayhemers, and with luck some might even bring along some cake (hint hint).
The stand is in the same place as last year so easy to find, and don't forget I am holding a lot of Mayhem merchandise (T shirts, sweatshirts etc)you can pre order or just turn up on the day to see what I have left (a further hint there)
Off to see whats happing on the rest of the site now...... %) %)

Yes, that's true Barrie. Possibly because the location is a bit out in the sticks and a longish drive home for many of us.

Barrie

All the shows at this venue are generaly very busy in the morning / early afternoon, it tends to start to tail off about 3pm, by 3.30 to 4pm theres only the people off stands left so they now seem to close at 4pm for the shows on the ones where this has always happened.

We have just been at there N gauge model rail show in spetember and there Artisan `bead and stamping` show about a week ago and they are the same, the shows at the warwick exhibition center are usualy very good, very busy, just everyone goes home slightly earlier i think due to the area it is in people want to get on the motorway and home before rush hour, the midlands model engineering show this friday to tuesday next week tends to be full of people later in the day and its open till 5pm

It makes a big difference to us getting back to the hotel at a sensible time, we stay in one of 2 hotels about 10 miles away , at 5.30pm theres a traffic jam to get to the hotel, at 4pm the roads are empty, when closing at 5 we used to get back to hotel about 6.30, now were back by 4.30 to 5

Well we had a good few hours this afternoon building the Lifeboat Enthusiasts' Society stand. It all came together nicely in the end just a few more boats to add in the morning.

If your there please come and say hello you can't miss us we have a big RNLI flag flying over the stand.

Will try and get to the meet up at phil's stand at 12 but we are doing a display on the water at 11:20 so might still be putting stuff back on the stand and answering questions after.

John

Looks great, did you say you have been eating the same Pie for 9 years ??? it must have been some pie as I have seen you with the nose bag on.. % {-)

It looks great martin I look forward to see the rest of your great pictures, for me its better than being there, as you get them at a nice hight that i can see the detail, i wish more people would leave the superstructure of there boats so you can see the insides of them.

Peter

Keep up the good work Martin

First time to this show and was going with pockets bulging and a list I also took a friend that wanted to buy a ready built power boat to my amazement we got round the show in an hour and came out with nothing and a wasted trip I'll not bother again  :((

It's OK if your into tugs, work boats or lifeboats which were plenty but no power boats or sailing stuff that I could see. I wanted to purchase a Robbe Atlantis or Valvidia but nothing at all I also wanted to buy a Models by Design CYGNUS SF 33 12th scale he had only took one and that got sold on Friday maybe I should of asked them to save one for me but there at a show to sell boats and they take one!  >>:-(

My friend also came home empty handed with no power boats for sale and for that matter none on any stands, where was OMRA don't they need new members obviously not.

anyway rant over will not bother again.

Only so much room in the van I guess, I'm sure if you'd spoken to Andy of MBD earlier this week he'd have brought one along for you and kept it on one side. They're very helpful and always try thier best. I went Friday, very busy, couple of the usual traders not there though, didn't buy much myself except some large styrene sheets and a Mayhem cap for myself and DoubleDiamond off SteamboatPhil, Dave.  ok2

A good show and I met a lot of people. There did seem to be some traders missing however and those I spoke to all commented on the high cost of attending. I do hope this show isn't going to price itself out of the market. Traders will only come if they can make a return and at least cover their costs.

Particularly liked the French battleship Jean Bart although there was some superb work on display.

Being the first time I have been to the show and all the hype from people I was surprised how small the show was and was expecting the other hall to be open with traders and clubs like the model engineering show was a few weeks before. Perhaps the show is too soon after Blackpool and would be better suited at a later date.

I went today. It was nice to see familiarly faces. I felt the show lacked some thing this year and was very same as last year. I do hope the show organiser does not price out the nice little stand. I do miss the big tool stand they have had in previous years. The lay out was not well thought out at all . I do hope this show has not peaked and this is a mear blip .

Sorry you were disappointed SpamCanMan but I doubt if you will find a bigger model boating only show in the UK at the moment, you would probably need to go to something like Dortmund instead. When all is said and done, model boating is rather a minority interest these days and, as you have seen, some sections of it  don't promote themselves very much.

Hi Martin

Would just like to say a huge thank you for awarding our club stand an excellence award!  We are very grateful that someone has acknowledged the amount of planning and work put into making our club stand to make it look different every year.  Most boats on our stand are on the water every week and any member of our club can put a boat on our stand.

Once again a big thank you from all exhibitors from King Lear Model Boat Club.

I enjoyed my visit and met up with many Mayhemers. Wearing my cap helped.    O0

I thought the model detailing was greater than I'd seen before and was enthralled just looking and appreciating it all.  Let's hope it's spurred me on to try harder next time I build something.

Thank you for the cake Debs. Great cooking.   :-))  Also to Phil for the use of his stand as a meeting place.

Well I have returned and just finished unloading the car (which had a little more in than on the way there--------damn that Andy from Models By design). A great show all round I thought, some very fine models this year, although I do agree a little down on traders. Many hours spent with Graham from the King Lear club with our nose's stuck in one of his boats smelling the age and the diesel fuel  %%
Hi to everyone I meet, thanks to Andrew H for the brushless info
Debsnal for all the bread pudding (and cake)
Klunk for allowing me to raid the Luton club sweet jar
All the ladies for Steak & Kindney pie
All those that brought me tea to keep my voice lubricated
Stavros for helping me on the stand (well he spent most of the time around the trade......he has now got more than a few building projects)
Here's to next year  :-)) :-))

Here a few of the most out standing boats.....

Philippe Madiot - “Galaxie”.  Philippe
 Bateaux Modelisme Brestois

A very worthy Mayhem boat of the show award.

Sorry everyone, been really busy this week. a few more photos.
This time a stunning giant scale Riva Aquarama Special.

The Hull took 3 weeks to build, the mechanics, running gear and chrome trim parts took 6 years.
It's his 2nd model as the first one wasn't good enough!?!?
Power is by 2  Zenoah 24cc (?) water cooled engines with custom mounts, silencers.... well everything!
Engines are conversely mounted and have electric start (the starter motors seem very small!)
Custom eletro clutches.
Custom disc braked differential reverse gearboxes.

It's not finished yet as he's still working on the fully operational dashboard!

... I'm embarrassed to say I spoke to the builder a several times but failed to get his name (can anyone help... please?)

"Custom disc braked differential reverse gearboxes."

You cans reverse at any engine speed, no moving pinions. Just a mix of clutch, differential and brake.

Anybody interessed by this usefull device ? Make it youself, Autocad and solidworks drawings avalaible.

Another Lagaffe creation.
