Title: HMS Repulse
Post by: 6705russell on April 04, 2010, 10:00:02 pm
Can anyone enlighten me as to what colours the Repulse was painted when she went down in 1941, i am building the Fleetscale semi kit and nearing the point of painting, she wore a camouflage paint of light grey and darek grey/black but i dont know what shades to use?

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Russ

the light grey is 507c and the black is black. I would use Humbrol 147 and 33.

The dark sections are more likely to be AP507A than black. White Ensign do an exact match, and Humbrol 112 is close enough, 27 being another possibility.

Remember, as we have discussed before on here, that models look better (and more authentic) painted in lighter shades than are strictly accurate.

Oops! Apparently Alan Raven thinks it may have been black, and I'm certainly not going to contradict him. But your model will still look better if you tone down the black a little.

Hi Jonty

I have been doing a little painting earlier, i used Humbrol 147 and Humbrol 33 for the black, it does look to dark....

As stated by others, she was in AP 507C (that's RN 03 in our Colourcoats enamels) and Black (Colourcoats C 02). Steel decks were in AP 507A (Colourcoats RN 01), and some of the bridge decks would have been clad in Corticene (Colourcoats RN 24). Underwater hull was RN Antifouling Red (Colourcoats RN 19).

Cheers,
