GAS TURBINE, THEY IDLE AT ABOUT 80,000 rpm AND ARE USUALY GOVERNED to about 120,000. In model aircraft they will do 300MPH ( sorry just found the caps lock !) What are you planning ?

if you are talking about the Swordsman in the plan for beginners a Graupner 600 motor drives this model at ample speed.
You can obtain the plans from a gent on this forum - FulleatherJacket - he owns ACTion Elecrtronics. If you PM him he will electronically email you the plans. As Dave will send them to you, he will also advise on printing them out sizewise etc.

Takes Johns word of advice,I built this model with Dave's plans and Johns thread on here.
It is a very light boat,and planes through the water at very good speed,anything more and becomes unstable

so far (I stand to be corrected) taking recent builds, its the fastest electric set up for this type of boat, 46", 6.5kg, the Huntsman is the same as Swordsman(you have not given any details of size, and what make is it, as the precedent and Veron models differ in setup) but it comes at a cost, and your question was "the most powerful", but as mentioned, its a very very vague question. The most powerful motor will not necessarily be the fastest boat, read that thread and you will see why, there are many other variables that need attention to achieve speed, and you need big pockets! :-))

The Swordsman from the plans I drew is nowt like the Precedent or Veron kits - it's only 24" long. As Bluebird says, any more than a standard 540 or a cool Speed 600 will overpower it to the point of making it uncontrollable. As for gas turbines, there's none small enough to fit, even if the idea had a smidge of sanity............ :o
The plan sheets are A0 size.

I meant that the swordsman and Huntsman are very similar boats, both being Fairey, as the originator of the thread gave no indication as to what scale etc he was building its difficult to offer any constructive advice, other than personal experience, its easy tro say what "might" work which happens a lot ;), perhaps Joe could tell us specifically what he is doing, for all we know the bopat could be bigger? :-))

Try reading this bit - "i am planning to do a swordsman". Then read the posts which follow, concerning the installation of a faster motor into the Swordsman as built by Bluebird from the free plan and documented elsewhere on the Forum.
I believe that the question of which is the most powerful motor available has to be directly related to the type of boat proposed for its use, otherwise it becomes an isolated and academic question and hardly merits a considered reply.
Gas turbines are unquestionably the most powerful motors available for models but they are totally unsuitable to a scale Swordsman - at least when built to 24" long. You would need a larger model to house even the most modest gas turbine and a very sophisticated gearbox to reduce the speed (120,000RPM?) down to a useable one for turning a propeller.
I don't "know nothing" about brushless motors but I don't have enough practical experience of them to be able to venture an opinion as to their suitability or otherwise. On the other hand I do know an awful lot about the Free Plan Swordsman. The consequences of overpowering it (e.g. with a gas turbine) are a matter of physics - not age.
The thread you have chosen to illustrate your point about large brushless motors is not related to this particular model and therefore of little practical help to Joelad1.

If you tried to put a gas turbine in a swordsman, even a small one such at the MTT unit, you better have a bl*** big swordsman. You also just have better one the lottery. Wren turbines are generally quite cheap, so lets say you wanted a Wren 44 turboprop motor to put in this thing. So you've managed to get money together the to get the engine, ECU, data terminal, valves, pump, mounts, pipework, connectors, gas tank and a radio system good enough to handle the functions, do any of you have the first clue how to wire one together and start it? No thought not. Also, who's going to insure you?
The turbine itself by the way is £2999
Then comes the problem of getting a swordsman big enough, you'd need one around 6 feet long to handle the power of the turbine.
I think we can discount the chatter of turbines now?

I can see Timo2 suggest the same one a Mr ZippyXXX boat, that was fast and from the model boats plan service, with a brushless motor.
Wrong again, I'm afraid.
Timo2 was actually referring to a 31" scaled-up version of the free Swordsman plan. He and I planned this model in my workshop and it will be fitted with a Speed 700BB 12v Turbo. No Mr Zippy. No XXX. No brushless motor.
(BTW I happen to know that JoeLad1 asked another Forum member how big the sheets are for the free plan - cheating, I know - but good fun...........)

Why all the talk about Turbines.
Turbines are an internal combustion ENGINE.
The question is about motors!!
As to The biggest power in a remote controlled boat:
A full size Leander Class Frigate was trialed as a remote controlled target.

Yes................ it is brushless - but what has this to do with what Timo 2 said above? The posting you quote was from 11 months ago on another thread by another Forum member on another subject but you're right - it did mention a brushless motor and a Swordsman (albeit a different one).

The tug has an Olympus 593 engine motor power plant and is to 1/128 scale.
The third mate on deck is brushless.

Ah! OK! Now I do know a bit about those because Linear Motors Ltd was in Loughborough and I did an engineering degree at the university there and guess what? They're brushless!!!

wow!! Mayhem has been a bit dull lately, nothing like a good old bust up to liven things up, the strange thing is though, what has happened to joelad????, come on Joe, time you came back out and told us all what it is you are actually building??, a Swordsman, but a rebuild of someone elses boat, a fresh build, is it the 24" FLJ has referred to, or something bigger then we can really get some advice coming on the forum.
