Title: Battery help please
Post by: Billyruffian on April 12, 2010, 09:27:49 am
I am just starting to put together an old Mardon model of the drifter Formidable - all still in the original box.  There is an 850 type motor by Johnson and a 2 inch prop.

What battery and Esc should I be looking at - she will be 47 inches long when completed.

thanks for any help / advice.

There could be a world of pain hidden in that word "type"!
Do you have any idea what voltage the motor was run from? If not, I'd suggest trying it on 6v to start with and see what the current off-load is and whether the prop spins at about the right speed (3000RPM-ish). Just connect the motor directly to the battery at this stage. If it draws more than say 1.5A then maybe you should consider using a "known" motor before you get too far into installing the Johnson "type".
