Title: Useful things I didn't know
Post by: BarryM on April 18, 2010, 12:50:44 pm
Today I read of the result of an investigation into a failed wind turbine blade and was surprised to read that they are composed of a balsa wood core with a fibreglass skin.

What did I think they were built of? - To be honest, if the thought had crossed my mind then probably it elected for an all-synthetic construction.

If this knowledge becomes common, are we likely to see desperate modellers too far from the nearest balsa supplier or caught without that essential bit of wood over a bank holiday, setting out for the moors with a saw tucked down their trousers?  :o
