Is anyone using this yet? Is it any good for boats? The sales info on most sites carrying stocks seems to be aimed purely at the car/truck market.

There was a message on the MB site from a chap on the UKRCC who said the system was only licensed at the moment for ISTR 1/10 of a watt, which I believe is markedly lower that the 27/40Mhz trannies. However, The latest MMI says that someone in the Oxford club is using the system without any range probs.
I've also been told, hearsay of course, that if another model using the system gets between you and your model there can be problems. If true it seems to be at odds with the no interference ever again claims.

Across the pond here in Canada there are many boaters using this system to great reviews. Sailboats, scale boats, fast electrics and IC racers are using them with no complaints about frequency interfierence at all. The range is such that you loose sight of your vessel before the signal runs out.
I have no personal experience (lack of $$$) but I have seen them in operation and can only go by second hand information (giggles, chortles and huge smiles).

One of the reported problems with this system is that the Rx aerial is so short that the the receiver has to be mounted high in the boat. I have heard that a few I/C boaters in the US had mounted their units close to the exhaust which affected its radiation pattern and caused range problems. Other than that, most of the owners seem quite happy with the system and it seems to work fine as long as the antenna is above the deck with no nearby metallic objects.
