Title: Newbie with some questions
Post by: Ferrets Bueller on June 06, 2010, 05:09:26 pm
Hi guys, my name is paul and i just bought myself my first rc boat kit a billings  1/20th coastguard (although i intend to make this into the waveney class lifeboat)

As ive read, i have to agree that the instructions are rubbish but i think i should be ok to follow them and get my boat bulit.

Im used to rc cars so will more than likely have some qustions about the boat as i go along.

For now though what motors should i be looking at installing in this boat, its a twin prop and rudder boat so i take it im going to need, 2x motors, 2x esc, a steering servo, 7.2v battery and at least a 3 channel tx and rx. I also takeit i could (if i have the room) add a sound module too? Does anyone have any good links as to where i can purchase these items.

And also does anyone know of any tuturiol guides to buildng this boat that i can find online.

Hi there Ferrets,

I have the same boat, given to me by a friend in a disreputable state years ago now. After rebuilding and repainting the model, I originally had it running with one ESC linked to both motors, but the turning circle was about half a football pitch in that configuration! I then bought a second ESC and mixer from ACTion, at that time run by Craig Talbot, now run by FLJ on these pages. Net result was that I won my class of Scale Steering (South West England Area) from five different venues around the area. By the last round I only needed to turn up to win the series, but in fact won that round too! My boat runs on 6v SLA, 4AH, and needs no further ballast, on 2 x 380 motors. Yes, you will need a steering servo, but with a mixer, a 2 channel set will be enough, but more channels if you wish to add extras, like lights, sound etc.

HTH Danny
