Title: Six volt or a twelve volt motor ?
Post by: tyke01 on January 14, 2007, 01:06:01 pm
As presumably for other 1:48 scale boats (but the JoTika Joffre in particular) the  recommended electric motive power is either a 6v or a 12v monoperm super.
What are the advantages/disavantages of the 6v motor compared with the 12v one ?  (How much difference between the two if Towing contests are likely ?)

tyke01,
The Monoperm is an 380 size motor but very expensive.
For the Joffre I would suggest a metal prop and run her on 6 volts using a 545 motor.
You could try the Motor from Electronize, you dont want any more than 5000 rpm MAX.
The Joffre should take a 6 volt 10 Ah battery so should last all day too, but do re-check the weight, it was a long time since I fitted out a Joffre.

Bob- sorry for being a bit different in that opinion- but I think for a boat in that size a motor with 12 Volts would be more suitable. Basicly the torque of a 12 Volt motor and his ratio in Amps/power is much better than 6 volt-types.
