Title: Brave Class

Gents hoping someone can satisfy my queery, Ive noticed on several pictures of Braves
that there are sometimes rectangular structures mounted port and starboard in the
position usually taken by the foremost torpedo tubes. Can anyone tell me what they are ?

If the pictures are of "Brave" Class FPBs (1954 - 1959) they are almost certainly minelaying equipment containers.  :-))

Hi there

the drawings Ive seen for the minelayers had both sets of tubes removed and 5 sets of mine racks down each side
the things Im refering to are much taller  and either 1 or two of them replacing the forward tubes

In order to provide additional endurance for special operations, 6 tons of additional fuel could be carried in four deck tanks secured outboard of the engine air inlet canopy. These tanks were drained into the main tanks as fuel was used, and could be quickly jettisoned in the event of imminent action. However the presence of these auxiliary fuel tanks placed some restriction on the armament carried.   :-)
