OK, time has come too clean the boiler inside. What would I use????? A standard descaling solution?????

Also as a side note.....could I use iron water (the stuff you buy in shops that smells nice that you put in an iron) I want my steam engine to smell all nice!!! LOL PS I know this does not clean it!!!!

Hi Klunk,

Calgon- follow directions on packet, really is that simple. Just make sure you thouroughly wash it all out before recommisioning.

if it is de-mieralised water then yes, you can have scented exhaust emmisions, if it is de-ionised you will erode your boiler and have a rather fun time trying to persuade your better half that you are competent enough to boile the kettle from now on.

I use ether vinegar or citric acid depending on how bad it is.

We have it up here too,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium_Lime_Rust
"Its ingredients include water, lactic acid, gluconic acid, glycolic acid, sulfamic acid, citric acid, and surfactants. The product also contained phosphoric acid at one time, but it is now phosphate free. The phosphate free formula is more environmentally friendly, but its effectiveness against some stains such as rust is reduced."

Gerald.
