Title: High Temperature Paint
Post by: BarryM on October 01, 2010, 08:45:52 am
This is something of a last resort as I have already searched everywhere I can think of. I am trying to locate a high temperature paint which can be applied to a steam engine running on saturated steam and it has to be green and brushable.

I can find green spray paints; I can find black, silver and white brushable paint. What I cannot find is green brushable.

If anybody out there can suggest a supplier, I would be much obliged. The engine is shown below. Lots of shiny steel and brass but all that shiny steel rusts very quickly without paint.

Thanks,

Barry M

I bought some "engine head paint" from halfords many years ago, it came in quite a few colours and was sold as suitable for brake calipers and engines etc. Sure they did a nice mid green. it came in a small (250ml ish) tin. I know they do do high temp sprays still but not in many colours.

Might be worth trying a good motor factor, anything for a brake caliper will be hot enough.

Do a Google on Stove Enamel, there are a number out there who sell in tins but I couldn't find one who did a small tin so you might have to buy a litre at 15 quid.

If you can get it stove enamel is the best stuff and Hemmens use it and Monahan used to use it.  Very hard resilient finish.
