What would one pay for this Aster Tugboat.
I'm looking to acquire this one. It has a metal hull.

why do you want Aster ? I think Its a brass boiler, though not shore, and the engine is not something you could run long term as the materials the cylinders are made from is not the best. boat is nice, did you see it on another site recently ?

There must be other Aster Steamboats that cost less than the price offered on the RCGroups ?
I don't need a showcase queen!

What are the cylinders made of?

the one I had Hold of was a dia cast material, and the faces scuffed up quickly. not something for a long life. but I may be wrong but that is my opinion.

I've seen the cylinder disassembled on the Mamod forum, being described as a rather soft cast metal, I thought you knew what it is.
Coincidentally, the Aster engine described there suffered from badly worn valve port faces.
-
Yes it seemed similar to the type of metal used in dia cast cars an alloy of Zinc , very soft underneath some have a hard surface, totaly useless, I didn't comment on the one that has been on hear as I had not had hold of it to see for myself.

Hi sunworksco,
If you scroll down the page you will see ( ASTER MANIFOLD ) by LOGOMAN this will give you an idea of how poor a design the Triple Aster is and the use of the metal for the cylinder will not give a very long life.
Logoman has had quite a job fixing his Aster.
Could give you plenty of room for thought before buying, although it's a beautiful model I personally would give it a miss.
George.

To bad there is not an Aster steamship without the steam engine!
I thought that the looks of the engine was a little shabby.
Here is the live steam show : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCLBV87BP6Y
