Title: Futaba Skysport 4YF 2.4 GHz FHSS
Post by: livesteam on November 17, 2010, 10:08:38 am
Hello!
I just came across this (http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=32053) RC-System from Futaba. It's got a very economical price and as I consider to change to a 2.4ghz system since quite a while, this is interesting. 4 channels should be enough for most of my applications. The only problem: It's not compatible to the Futaba FASST-System, it seems only to run with the (quite expensive...) Futaba FHSS Rx.
Does anyboy know this radio? What are you thinking about it? Maybe Rx from other manufacturer would fit?
Thanks!

The radio its self is long tried and trested and the package is good value. As you mention additional reveivers will be expensive. There maybe clone RX's soon that may be compatible but wont be CE aproved (as the FASST is patented by Futaba)  and probably not covered by any model insurance you may have.

As far as I understand the rx has to match the tx make on 2.4ghz sets, There are plenty of good inexpensive 2.4ghz set out there now, The price of the rx may be something to judge what unit to buy on, as people are more often going to want more rx units than tx units.

Have two unused 4YF sets albeit they are FM and identical in appearance to the 2.4ghz version.
Am having problems trying to work out how to convert them to 2.4ghz.
The Frsky 2.4ghz Futaba module conversion (on another thread under 2.4ghz conversions) does not specify it as compatable with the 4YF system.
Nor can I find any wiring diagrams.
Really didn't want to bin the FM sets unless absolutely necessary.

The FRSkya and Corona Hack modules are compatible with all PPMradios. The Futaba 4YF is one such radio. If there aren't instruction posted online somewhere then you would need to to identify the +ve -Ve and PPM Signal wires on the Futaba PCB yourself.

Mankster,
And there is the glitch, as according to the instructions you need some piece of equipment which is beyond me to identify the connections. :(( :(( :((
Have tried googling for wiring connections but no luck. <:( <:(

Does your transmitter have a trainer port?

Well, I have both a Spektrum DX5e with 2 AR500 Rxs, and a Giant Cod TX with about 6 Rxs. The latter set up cost considerably less than the former, has analogue trims which I prefer and has been  just as reliable and has at least the same range. ( This means both sets are still working when I have difficulty seeing the model).

Hi Mankster,
Instructions say, top left front is trainer switch and on back is Trainer Jack (small rectangular 6 socket).
Under Trainer function it states
"The special trainer chord can be connected to SKYPORT4, FF5, SKYSPORT6, 6X series, 7U series, 8U series ,9C series and PCM1024Z series transmitters."

So you must have the newer square trainer port.

Here the pinout diagram http://users.belgacom.net/TX2TX/tx2tx/english/tx2txgb3.htm
by tracing which wires go to which pins on the inside of the trainer port, you now have your +Ve, ground and PPM signal.
