Friends, i was inspired too much, by seeing one of my friends craft, a yellow nice duck with paddlers...of Timo, and i lost my sleep..so i decided to make one and tried to get one for me.after andering many oy shops, result as desperating..so i started from expanded polystene, and its taking shape now..i have a best idea about Ducks, as many we have in our farms. so i know it swims with a swinging action fore and aft..then my intention was to fix a prop at back, and a pump at bow..but i hope it will make this duck a boat like running instead of silent one..so can anyone suggest me to choose a good type of propultion to my deck for a silent operation...?
-
and i am willing to add flapping wings, and opening beaks, all with quack quack noise made out of a simple electronic circuit..
-
and its on my work bench...
-
i am willing to finish it in to a bronish gold colour, with green necks and yellow beak..
-
VETERANS..please advice me and guide me once as i can avoid useless works and time loss as all you are experienced by many years..its a humble request...
-
Hi Rathi
I think you are doing OK by yourself. Your imagination and design abilities far outreach some of ours. Well done.
Here is a picture of a duck that I was going to convert but never got around to it. The idea was to cut an opening in the top of the wings for access to the works inside, but that's as far as I got. :}

Oh.Gowd...its too nice one..Sir will you finish it..? and what kind of propultion is intended for this one, paddlers or prop..?
-
I was going to keep it's look and fit a small prop underneath. The steering could be done with the duck's web feet facing backwards before the prop. :-)

The steering could be done with the duck's web feet facing backwards before the prop...!!! Sir this was the problem, i have to overcome.Steering...Sir, will you explain it once..? i couldnt get the idea exactly, from your explanations. please..

Hi Rathi
I did a little drawing on the computer for you. (that was an amusing half hour finding out I cannot draw)
Here's a picture to give you an idea. The feet are flat together and vertical like a rudder and are pivoted in front of the propeller.
Have fun

tug kenny where did you buy the duck from regiment
-
looks like a standard shooting decoy , you should be able to get them from country sports shops and shooting suppliers

Hi Regiment. I got mine from the Garden centre. I also have a swan which is bigger and could be a bit of fun if I get the neck to turn with the rudder. ;)

i always wanted a swan to turn into a bait boat. At my lake bait boats are banned & i thought a swan would make a great stealth bait boat. {-)
-
hmmmm any ideas where I can get a crocodile? a stealth crocodile bait boat could put the wind up a few people {-)
Rathi once again you have taken my breath away with another fantastic model. I hope you will show us more of the ways you design them and make them, I am sure I could learn a lot :-) :-))

Oh god..its clear now...now on the mark...by today i am back home, as i got leave for two months...hooooyyyy.....and many sleepless nights and days are waiting me...ahead....by this night i will finish the wings, yes will flaps, and will find a good toy gearbox for it...by many words from the replies i got many more ideas, to make a CROCODILE, and a TURTLE...sure...my hands are trembling now with excitement...heeyyaa.....thanks for the great ideas...especialy for the drawing. thanks for the effort...and i dont know how to thank you...and Lord, sure with this two months, i will finish many crafts, including my paddler, duck, croc , turtle, microlite, and a static scale of a westland Wyvern, in to 1: 24th, and will an ultimate craft, as my leaves sweper cum water crane, all with moving booms and spatula, its main aim will be recovering my stranded crafts...so now i have to leave friends, as i am just reached at the threshold of my native, and sitting at cafe and i have to bath and eat something...so thanks again for the great advices...i will finish this duck in to metalic brown with green neck and yellow beak...good night...

Rathikrishna, your postings on this forum are like a breath of fresh air, thank you. :-))
Few of us exhibit even a fraction of your excitement, and your determination to make something-that-works should be an inspiration to all, especially the younger, budding modellers.
Keep up your wonderful work,
Geoff

Hi Guys,
Like the idea of a swan, we have a great problem with pesky swans at Killingworth Lake, would like to build a decoy swan and install a SWAN DISTRESS call inside it, that might keep the 50 odd swans we have away from the sailing area - ANY IDEAS ?
-
How about a submarine like Jules Verne Nautilus witrh a pointy bit on the front to gently nudge them out the way.
Before anybody complains Iwas only joking - I'd get thrown out the RSPB for suggesting that.

Hi Soldier. At my club a member has made a crocodile head.As soon as it sails theres not a bird in sight.Could make an alternative to
a swan.Also something different.John.

Good morning Friends...and thanks for the image of nice CROCK...Sir will you post some more pics here..? and propultion you used...i am on my worktable with expanded polystyrene to sketch a crock in to 4 feet...a gruesome looking one...GRRRAHHHH....with moving jaws...but only after finishing my trawler and water crane...along with paddler and duck...i fixed a prop and rudder to my duck last night, and its in test now...so here i will lost around my 4 hour time, as sitting in this cafe...but too impatient to read all suggestions and advices from you all...and thanks for the great discussions and ref:...

This is the purpose made Hull/Head for my Croc, I then made a wire mesh head shaped covered with paper mache and painted with emulsion paint.
-
Oh god..Sir will you give me some more good photographs of your work..? please..it looks so nice...and brainfull work..please...
-
Sir, is that structure made of foam board..?
-
The head/hull is made from Styrene and the body is expanded polystyrene sculpted with a hot wire cutter. The tail I articulated.
The Head tows the Body.

Ohhh..its great idea...Sir will you post a short video here..? will be great helpful if so...please...now i am too impatient to make one...
-
Sorry, no video.
The claws I made by cutting wooden curtain Rings into 4.
When sailing, if you constantly move the rudder left and right, the croc and articulated tail move in a sinister way.
Len.
